Seems to be just as buggy as the quest before it. The dirt mounds will randomly disappear. Unlike the puddles, you can't just step in them, so harder to cheese past the bug here.

EDIT: just got past it, you can talk to Roska again if the dirt mounds disappear to get them to show up again.

absolutely the most buggy quest they've added in this xpac. I've sat there for 10-15 mins. to no avail. half the time, the dirt doesn't show up. when it's there, i grab it and use it, and it's still dropping back down to 0%. I'm not sure if other people doing it at the same time affects it or not. :(

Bugs aside, the quest design here is questionable. You have a limited amount of time to click specific objects, but you can't even click them because of the dozens of other players blocking them. This is an MMO but Blizzard repeatedly designs quests where other players are a total nuisance. I don't understand.

For whatever reason I've found a pattern that ended up working. Summon the totem > Click the Totem ONCE (don't click again until excavation site is no longer clickable) > Click SEPARATE dirt piles until the main excavation site becomes targetable. Very buggy quest. 0/10.

Got it.

Put the totem down, right-click on it.
Right-Click the corpse to start the dig.
Pay attention to what the NPC says in the General tab.
When she says "need more water!", click the totem.
When she says "need more dirt!", click the smaller piles that are behind you on the shore (after this, go back to the main corpse again).

Rinse, repeat, until 100%

Not buggy at all.

REPLY: Okay, don't know why I can't respond on this post, or why the stupid downvotes, but this is absolutely true. Have done it this way on 3 toons now. This is how you do it.

The bar is stuck at max water with no way to move it near earth....

I start the quest by talking to the NPC. I get the Excavation buff, the Earth - Water meter, and can see dirt piles. Don't have a percentage progress bar over the body.

I drop my totem and activate the elemental. I get the meter swinging up to water, past the active range. Get NPC yelling, but the earth mounds have disappeared as has the buff. Tried restarting too many times.

Something's bugged.

Edit: I went back to try again and the dirt didn't vanish this time, so I finished it.

Note that the percent progress meter was still missing, but only with this quest. Later quests and WQs were all fine.

At some point Blizzard devs should simply stop making game mechanics needlessly complicated
If this is our replacement for old archaeology I'd prefer to just do old archaeology Edit: everything I do now resets the dig progress I'm shocked how this quest made it past testing

Struggled doing this normally, then gave it a try with warmode on and got it first try.

Would recommend going on warmode if there's too many people as dirt piles can be used by others making it nearly impossible to do the requirements in time.

Hello kind people.

I abandoned the quest thinking it was bugged and got sidetracked. Now I can't find the quest start location anymore for the life of me. It isn't marked on the map. Please can someone help me?

After not knowing what the hell was going on for several minutes, I finally got this to work.

Basically you need to keep the indicator in the middle sweet spot of the bar so that you can dig up the corpse. I parked the water totem by the corpse and used it when I needed water, and when there was too much I quickly ran over to the dirt mounds and clicked on those to move the indicator the other way.

Talk to Roska if the dirt piles disappear to reset the quest.

Horribly bugged quest, but to deal with the despawning dirt pile probably, talk to the npc again and they should respawn and then just rinse and repeat until the body is excavated.

Whoever came up with these quests shouldnt feel proud. These are awful. I would honestly say these are best avoided for now. The best you can hope for is maybe if you leave the area and come back it might work.

This quest is an absolute pain in the backside, what a gawd damn nightmare. I tried it several times last night before giving up, this am after a few more attempts I finally, somehow got it to 100%. The problem here is the npc doesn't give the instructions in time, so I would do each action x2 & it seemed to get the job done. So if she said I needed more dirt I would click x2 piles, then for water, x2 from the elemental, and so on. You can also keep mousing over the "pile" you are trying to uncover and make small percentages of progress. When I finally got it I had 35%, then to 70% ish then finally to 100%. I totally agree w others in WTF was Blizz thinking releasing this BS when there was absolutely NOTHING wrong w old archeology.

C! THE ONLY CHALLENGE IS TO DO THIS SIMPLE TASK IN THE MOST COMPLICATED WAY SO IT DOES NOT RESET

Any sane person would just dig up the body with their hands but we are forced to use a totem and piles of mud and take detailed directions from a orc named Roska Rocktooth who refuses to do this simple task herself standing just out of arms reach... for reasons.

0 Dismiss pets, companions, tag alongs, escorts and charmed creatures that could aggro hostile pats in the water or nearby

1 Talk to Roska to start the dig. The orc is standing TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE BODY.
DO NOT APPROACH HER A SECOND TIME WHILE DIGGING IS ACTIVE OR QUEST RESETS
2 Go to rivers edge where you must stand ON TOP of the body, half buried, then summon the water totem, but do not click on it to activate.
3 When the chat TEXT asks for more dirt click once on THE ONE AND ONLY DIRT PILE YOU NEED CLOSEST TO THE CORPSE. You do not need any other dirt piles, the are just there for 'atmosphere'.
4 When the chat text ASKS for more water click once on the totem.
5 Watch the RESOURCE BAR, when it is in the sweet spot, click corpse to 'archeolody dig'. Repeat while bar is balanced.
The resource bar is slow to react, the totem takes time to register, the mud dig does not. Wait until the resource bar as stopped moving to click more water or mud. The brief water totem animation tells you how long to wait for your click to register.

Now that the corpse is targetable, watch the resource bar instead of the chat text.

6 When elemental resource bar tips out of balance, click once on your ONE mud pile or once on your totem to balance the opposite element and continue to dig while it is in the sweet spot. This will take 3-6 adjustments.
7 Retrieve like any other archaeology item, talk to Rocktooth... win.

- a patroling hostile fish or turtle attacks you
- if another player pulls any hostile mobs
