Looks like Paladins are going the tanking route. I wouldn't be surprised if Paladins in TBC will be DPSing and Tanking up there with the rest of the Warriors; and not just healing.

This will really help prot pallies who actually like occasional tanking. Currently they have a lot of difficulty holding aggro, but at least this way they can now 'taunt' if someone pulls off of them.

This spell is soooooo very nice, especially now after the change in 2.4 where it can be used just like a warriors taunt, no need to select a friendly target anymore.

This does need to target a friendly character or NPC in order to work. The easiest way to do it is with a macro like this:

#showtooltip
/cast Righteous Defense

This will cast Righteous Defense if the target of your target is an ally, or if you are already targeting an ally. Very handy while tanking.

I haven't had to use a macro or anything, I just target the creature and it taunts it and two others off of the person.

Also, is this exempt from the, "Taunts don't miss," rule? Because I've seen it miss.

You can use Healbot to target as well. My holy paladin uses this to save squishy DPS sometimes.

Looks like we are losing this in MoP!

Blizzard has been making threat generation less and less important with each patch over the last year, I guess there is no need for a second taunt come the next expansion.

All-inclusive Righeous Defense macro:
#showtooltip Righteous Defense
/cast Righteous Defense

This will cast Righteous Defense on:

Your target (if a friend)
Your mouseover (if a friend)
Your target's target (if target is nasty and is attacking a friend)
Your mouseover's target (if mouseover is nasty and is attacking a friend)

In effect, you can use this macro on an enemy who's attacking a friend, or on a friend who's being attacked by an enemy, whether you're targetting or just mousing over the enemy or friend.

For Paladins who miss the way Righteous Defense worked, since this spell is gone in MOP, here is a macro to make your current taunt sort of work the way RD used to. Note that it will only taunt one mob, but it works by clicking the target that has aggro, not the mob. I have it set to a Clique binding, but it also works in Vuhdo, Healbot, or other click-cast addons.

/cast Reckoning()

I assume you could also make it a mouseover, but I'm not that savvy. This works for me.
