Mobs seem to take an inordinately long amount of time to spawn, but once they do, you're fine. Was waiting a few minutes at the beginning of quest after speaking to Emberthal.

I had to keep running into the purple circle on the ground in order for the mobs to spawn.

...killed a few mobs, then the progress bar just filled up (while nothing was happening - no kills occurred from my side or by Emberthal)

After that I was moving around (off limits), being uncertain and it made Emberthal despawn.

But!

from around 80ish percent, not watching the screen, next thing I know was releasing my corpse. (bye, carousel rep buff - should have done WQs etc first?)

So don't take it just too lightly.

or to stay short, don't just trust going afk in that case! or find some comfort zone first.

Now while I'm writing this it seemingly continued filling up, and I should return to the screen before probably being involved in combat again!

My internet went off after having done the quest, now i cannot turn it in. Anyone knows what to do?

Standing inside the blue circle also advances the progress bar even if you're not killing mobs.

The progress of stopping Sarkareth ticks on a timer. You don't have to kill any enemies. I completed this by just AFK'ing for like 2 minutes while letting the mobs hit me. The mobs disappear shortly afterwards when Ebyssian arrives.

FYI: If you die while doing this, which I did, not realizing that if you stand in the purple circle (as people have mentioned here) enemies keep coming (rather quickly). Once I returned and resurrected, Emberthal was gone and Sarkareth just stood there; however, the purple circle was still there and so was the progress bar, so instead of abandoning the quest to try to start over, I just continued as though nothing had happened, standing in the purple circle to bring one enemy, then got quickly got out of the circle, killed the enemy, recovered, then stood in the circle again. Eventually (not that long), the bar filled, Emberthal reappeared and the quest continued and I was able to turn it in.

Description

This is a difficult situation, my friend. Wounds and insecurities cannot be easily dismissed. Only time--and cooperation--can soothe the sting born of longstanding rivalries. But there are more urgent matters to address. If there is a large force of drakonids still loyal to the memory of Neltharion, this land is much more dangerous than any of us expected. Emberthal still pursues Sarkareth--alone. She must be made aware of the threats that surround her. We must find her and give her aid.
