This quest line is lot more fun with the patch 2.3 changes.

If your a protection specced, I would roll with the chest piece because the shield is good yes, but you can use Aegis of Scarlet Commander at 39 so the shield is almost pointless.

i was wondering if i should get shield or use chest at 40 as an enh shammy. I'mm thinking about picking the shield though

Shield best for warriors and paladins in proto before 40 lvl...they must choose him but not the chest.

This questline is a bit of a pain in the ass as it involves riding back and forth from hammerfall to stormgarde a good few times. If your class can't use the blue items I'd just abandon this and get my exp elsewhere.

The mobs in the crypt are easy to dispatch and worth as much as "elite" mobs of the same level. If you kill all 3 in a relatively short timeframe and come back 5-7 minutes later, all 3 will have respawned. If you are banking or just hanging out in shat and can switch to your lower level char every 7-10 minutes, this is an AWESOME GRINDING SPOT. With relatively "no" work, you can gain 2-4% of your level every 5-10 minutes.

*edit, 440xp per caretaker at lv 43, thats 1320xp per "log in" (idea is to immediately log off after killing these 3), and I need about 80k xp to level. Even at 1.5% of the level per run, doing this a few times can gain you as much xp as a quest in 60 seconds.

This is passive leveling at it's best.

The whole chain duoable at lvl 32. Me (Feral Druid) and my retri paladin friend were able to do it. Most mobs in there are 37-39 and not that hard even at lvl32, but Prince Galen Trollbane is level ? (44) and quite a bit harder.

Shield sells most at the vendor. For the people that can't wear anything of these questrewards.

Just did this quest as a level 38 ret pally, it was really easy. Just took the shortcut through the wall and when I got to the level 41's concencrated and judgment of light until they died. Also the armor is nice for 38. =]

Soloed this at 41 as a hunter, started the chain at 40 along with all the other Stormgarde quests, using your pet, your stings and the right combo of traps makes Stormgarde really easy to walk through.

Essentials to solo as a hunter;

Your pet, absolutely saved my bacon more than once
Aspect of the Hawk or Dragon Hawk
Viper sting, works great to give you that little bit extra mana just when you need it
MAIL! can't stress that enough
Volley...nuff said (AOE)
And last but not least, Exlposive Trap, Immolation Trap works too but Explosive has an AOE

All in all a little tricky at times and getting swamped by 4 or 5 of them was a pain but thats where Explosive Trap and Volley comes in. Well worth the Exp and the Blues at the end. As a hunter wearing Mail I had yet to find a decent chest piece, this one suit the bill perfectly.

The chest is very good at this level (level 32 that is). My protection specced level 50 warrior still hasn't encountered a better chest piece. I know they exists, but I haven't been that lucky yet. :)

So I would go for the chest piece, because as they others already stated, you can get a better shield in SM cath, but better chest pieces are a long way away. :)

There is only one thing I hate abbout this quest, and that is the choice between the rewards is extra hard :(
