Head northeastish along the cliff until you find a faint zig-zagging path that leads you down the cliff. Head east and find Hawkmaster Nurong shooting at Voress'thalik...help Nurong kill him.

Please note that once you accept this quest, the NPC will give you a slow-fall buff. Just jump off the cliff and fight the NPC (make sure you attack from behind; he takes 200% more dmg).

Once done, you will turn-in at the bottom of the ravine, then zig-zag your way up to the top!

I bugged this quest out by blasting the huge mantid with the cannon in the Hostile Skies quest. Voress'thalik never made it to the valley floor alive so Nurong and I never killed it together and I got no credit for the quest. Not a problem except that Voress'thalik did not reset when I abandoned the quest.

Update: Voress'thalik did reset, but it took a few minutes. Not sure exactly how long.

I was a little slow to making my way down to the ravine floor after accepting the quest. I arrived only to see another player finish off Voress'thalik. I waited about 1 mintue thinking about what I should do before Voress'thalik landed again and I was able to complete the quest.

Once you get down there and find Hawkmaster Nurong, he should be killing Voress'thalik. If he isn't, and you find him just standing there doing nothing with no Voress'thalik in sight... just wait longer... Voress'thalik will show up in a minute or two.

I'm not quite sure how I did it, but I managed to bug this quest out. Perhaps it was because I didn't manually remove the slow fall buff and so instead fell far past where the action is supposed to take place, but whatever the cause, Voress'thalik ended up being stuck on a little ledge in-between the zones considered Dusklight Hollow and Townlong Steppes. Due to this, when I attempted to run around the ledge to the side that wasn't steep, I ended up crossing the border and resetting him, but no matter how many times this happened, he kept respawning (minus the chunks of health I had managed to take away from him) in the same terrible spot. Finishing this quest while encountering this bug on a Death Knight was challenging, because Death Grip does nothing to him, and I had to hit him with Icy Touch a bunch of times as well as pop my Army on him. I hope no other melee encounters this bug, because it was a pain!

okay since there was a problem the first comment says it perfect you should look for the buff before jumping obviously... after you talk to the quest giver he gives you a buff for about 24 seconds and its a 5 second fall so if you die or disregard the quest for some time go to the picture above abondon quest and re accept it therefore getting rebuffed and he jumps so just follow him

Using the slow fall buff this quest gives you for 30 seconds, if you just straight out and down you will be award with Going Down? achievement if you don't already have it.

So as of 5/2/13, The quest seems to bug out. I jump after the guy and once he lands for the first time he disappears. no baddie shows up and I'm just left there having to re run back up. Anybody else have this issue or have a solution!

Leveling in 5.4.8 and have noticed Hawkmaster Nurong disappearing at the lowest spot he jumps to along the ledge. He jumps twice, then despawns.

I thought the buff that gives slow fall might have something to do with it, so I removed the buff and pally bubbled. I stayed with him the whole time and he despawned as normal. He did NOT respawn below to fight, and neither did Voress'Thalik.

Unknown at this point if Blizzard knows or is working on this. Noticed this on May 25, 2014 at roughly 4:00 PST.

So, I came upon this quest and noticed it was bugged. ~~Taoshi~~ Nurong jumps down a couple ledges and vanishes, no matter what I do. However, as I was down on the floor of the canyon looking around I noticed a quest POI on my mini-map - it was Voress'thalik. Apparently ~~Taoshi~~ Nurong had spawned under the ground near the ridge to the left of where he jumped down and was fighting him through the wall. However, they both would only 'phase in' if I was in the Widening Deep area. If I went too far up the cliffs, I'd phase to another area and they'd both vanish.

I found a point where I was still in the Widening Deep, yet was in range to use one of my attacks. Unfortunately, I was on my warrior. I sat there for a few minutes spamming heroic throw at Voress and he was down. ~~Taoshi~~ Nurong ran to where he was originally supposed to be down in the Widening Deep, and I was able to complete the quest successfully.

Found the quest mob a bit to the northeast, down in the canyon. It wasn't right where you jump down, it was a good bit away.

No matter what I do, Voress'thalik is dead when I go to the area. I tried abandoning. Logging out. Swapping WM on/off. CRZ shenanigans. Clearing cache. Etc. No matter what, the boss is dead before I get to it.

Had to GM ticket it. They said it was a bug related to the recent 10.1 patch. If you have an issue, send a ticket. This is the message I got:
"I took a look into your case and I can tell you that as I was able to verify this isn't working as intended for you (this is an issue unique to the 10.1 patch), I was able to go ahead and put the Devastation Below quest on a Ready to Turn In state.
You just need to turn it in on the NPC that finishes this quest and everything will be solved."

So basically, they can't even fix it, they just autocomplete it for me and anyone else. Thanks Blizzard.

if you are doing this quest for time walking or just to get the loremaster achievements or just for fun, prepare for some issue as the mob that is suppose to spawn will be dead and will not respawn. I suggest creating a support ticket, and they will fix it for you as they did for me. This was the only way that worked for me as I tried leaving Timewalking and doing the War mode on and off multiple times.

As of 10.2. this quest is still bugged and is almost impossible to complete. Unfortunately the only way you can complete it is by toying with timewalking on/off, which is not a viable option for players above level 59.

As of 10.2, I was having an issue finding Voress dead each time.

Having completed questing everywhere in Pandaria except this quest line and all of Dread Wastes, I completed Dread Wastes and then came back to this quest and Voress was alive and ready to be killed. I also dropped the quest and picked it back up before the kill.

In short, complete Dread Wastes quests before you quest in Townlong Steppes. This is what worked for me.

Okay lads.

So here is what you need to do if you can't get the quest done.
Start with abandon the quest so you dont mess up after my steps.

Go to Orgrimmar/Stormwind/Valdrakken to turn on War Mode.
Head back to the quest giver on the mountain, take quest, then just levitate down the hill with the NPC.
When you land DO NOT TOUCH the mob until the Hawkmaster himself has taken his shot. After that just kill and quest is completed.

As of 4/14/24, this was bugged for me... here's what I did to fix it:

Complete other Pandaria zones in the Loremaster Achievement
Abandon the quest
Reaccept the quest
Kill the bug

This may seem like "the long way" compared to the other comments recommending War Mode, but I needed to do the quests anyway because I'm going for Loremaster.
