Difficult as a level 80... you need to damage it below a certain % before you can channel this spell.

Mine was at 26% so ...

Had some problems with this as lvl 80. Worked for me by just hitting it unarmed, getting it to around 30% and use the orb.:)

Agree with the other comments: very difficult for a level 80 to do. As a paladin, I had to take off my weapons and still killed several too fast. Make sure you take ret aura off as that will kill them fast before you get a chance!

At 85 I tried doing it taking my weapon out but still would one shot them. Took off my weapon and all gear, which still left me with nearly 50k health..just whacking at him with my fist I easily took him down slow enough that I could capture him without one-shotting him.

So..get naked and capture that ogre?

If you wait a bit after handing in the quest to Swar'jan, he interrogates the ogre you captured and ignites him. After the captured ogre talks Swar'jan tells him to throw himself off and the ogre jumps down to the pond with boars. And the boars eat him. Such a lovely and reasonable ending for a questline :3

As a level 85 pally, I was having a very difficult time doing this quest at first. Then I just taunted one put up ret aura. He hit me 3 times and he was down low enough for the orb to work, easy as that.

As a lv 85 Demo Lock, I just took off all armor/trinks/rings etc and just using fel flame til I got him down enough.

To get this quest u have to first do the (i think it was 2) quests from Orhan Ogreblade, she is an orc female standing in front of the cave with a wolf mask on. Also Swar'jan is on top the tower, took me a min to find him.

As a 90 AffLock, after many, many failed attempts, I finally found the easiest way was to take off all of my gear, hit the ogre once with Unstable Affliction and spam the Orb before the health goes too low--hope that helps someone. :)

If your a higher level. Like a level 90. You can also take off your wepaons and gloves and bracers then hit the orb. This will then trap the ogre mage.

As a 90 Disc priest trying to do this quest was very frustrating (sometimes I wish I had other ranks of my spells again)! First, I tried getting naked and just hitting them with my fists, but I still one shot them. I read some of the other comments about dotting the mages then spamming the orb - that still didn't work for me. Finally, (I'm still naked) I decided to use my shadowfiend to attack them and spam the orb. Worked like a charm!

Forget about this quest now. The 25x damage increase ensures that even naked level 90s will one shot the mobs. Nothing we can do about it short of getting a lowbie to help or, ideally, Blizzard fixing this long overdue issue. "Weaken it first" quests really should have been tweaked the moment Loremaster achievements were implemented.

After one-shotting the Gordok Ogre-Mages with even the weakest spell or melee attack, wearing no gear, I deemed this quest impossible to do for a max level character after 6.0.2.

...But I found a solution that is available to all classes - and it spells Resurrection Sickness. This will enable you to steadily reduce the HP of an Ogre Mage to the threshold which lets you capture it using the quest item.
(To easily get yourself killed, remove all your gear, ascend into the air on your favorite mount and drop down on the stone patio.)

Okay, so at first I thought this quest was impossible to solo when over-leveled due to the new system put in for WoD. I was in the area with my lvl 62 DK, and found out that this quest required the impossible: Weaken a mob that you one-hit even when naked, then capture it.

Let me explain: This quest requires you to "weaken" a Goldak ogre-mage, then capture it, and bring it back to the quest giver. Unfortunately, due to the new WoD system regarding high level characters, pretty much everything will one-shot an ogre-mage at lvl 60+

Even when completely naked, and using no initial damage skills will kill them. Chains of Ice, for example only hold the mob in place, but Frost Fever alone is enough to to kill them. After cycling through every skill I had available, I noticed something

Death and Decay would only do half the ogre-mage's health damage with the first tick. As a DoT spell, the full damage does not impact right away. From this, I figured out that if I equip enough pieces of my armour to almost kill the ogre-mage in the first tick, I could claim aggro on the mob, then kite it forward, drop Death and Decay so that he was on the very edge of the range, and thus have the mob survive long enough to capture it.

This is a working solution to this annoying quest for any DK in the 60's bracket. Hopefully this should carry on to higher levels, so long as you remove enough armour to compensate your base damage. In theory, this should work for any class with a DoT - provided they have a way to remove it after the first tick.

It sure beats killing yourself to obtain res sickness anyway. Speaking of which, as I posted earlier, I'm sure simply partying up with a lower level in the area for this quest is a better solution than suicide. I'm sure a little gold reward would be incentive enough for most lower level players to help you out.

If you're a level 100, one way to do this quest and others like it is to use a trinket that spawns something to protect you (like: Vanquished Clutches of Yogg-Saron or Defender of the Timbermaw). These generally will take a few hits to kill the mob, so you'll definitely be able to weaken them. The long CD times are a bit annoying, but this was much preferable to finding a lowbie to help!

rezz sickness didn't work for me, I keep accidentally killing everything :( I am now going to try making some low level rockets and using those... going to try some engineering explosives now.

I made an account on here just to reply to this about this infuriating quest. I took off all my gear and still one shot them with my fists. Tried the fishing pole method that someone mentioned, one shot. So I flew up high and dismounted and killed myself. Took the rez sickness and then was able to do it. But I had to be fast, because two hits would kill it. So be fast with the orb thing after you hit it once. Btw, I was level 100.

And since when do the Belfs wear thongs? I haven't ran around naked on one before but is that like a new thing or was that always the case? These ally players saw me out here in my thong probably thought I belonged in Goldshire. Lmao.

Here's how I did it as an 100 level enhance shaman, flew up above Dire Maul, right-clicked my mount, died, got resurrection sickness, took off half my gear, clicked on ogre mage, used my fire totem. After 2 "shots" from the totem, I clicked on the remove totems icon to get rid of it, the ogre mage was still alive, then I used the orb to capture him. Took around 10 min., but that's how I did it. Also, make sure your lightning shield is off.

ENGINEER ONLY WAY! (WITHOUT SICKNESS) So there is another way than doing it with Resurrection Sickness at Level 100, Sadly it is only possible for Engineers with Skill level 105 with Large Copper Bomb! (I believe at level 110 we will be able to use Rough Copper Bomb)

I did this on my hunter today, equipped my gear and got myself ress sickness. 1 hit and got the mage to about 15% hp :)

At level 100, you can also use Goblin Dragon Gun, Mark II, just be sure you only let it tick TWICE. As a hunter, I lit it, let it tick, and then hit disengage to get out of range.

The key here is REZ SICKNESS. I am a level 100 relatively high ilvl (717) MM hunter. I removed all my armour, climbed atop mah favourite mount and committed suicide.

I didn't think it would work to be honest. What with all the changes in WoD.

But I removed the talent Lone Wolf from my tree (as it gives my toon a massive damage boost) and I KID YOU NOT the damn ogre (with one hit from an auto attack) got down to 1%. Which substituted to 16HP.

Heh.

I orbed that %^&* up real quick.

Winning.

As a level 100 undead of any class, I've not yet found a way to complete with, even with Rez Sickness, without Touch of The Grave instantly killing the mob. Just a heads up for anyone else wondering why this seems impossible as a higher level undead.

I managed to finish this quest today with a level 100 Rogue.

What I did was:

- Removed all my gear
- Flew up high and dropped dead
- Resurrected at a Spirit Healer to trigger Resurrection Sickness
- Used Throw a couple of times and made sure I stopped targeting the Gordok Ogre-Mage when it came close

That's how I did it and managed to finish the quest.

How I completed this quest without resurrection sickness: used my Whole-Body Shrinka', took off all my gear, and attacked the ogre until I could capture him.

There is another way for lvl 100 to do this! Fast and cheap...

Equip any low-level weapon, I used a lvl 32 wand, doing the enormous amout of 4.38 dmg/sec and when Mage is below 20% used the orb.

at level 100, with no gear on, and falling to my death, getting rez sickness I was able to hit the mage and capture it.
Take all and I mean all of the gear off.

This worked for me as of patch 7.0.3. Unfortunately on my first attempt Windfury kicked in. Second try was the charm. One punch knocked the ogre down to 10% health and I was able to capture him. Thank you.

After about thirty or so minutes of running around naked with no weapons or miscellaneous equipment on, I almost gave up. But I decided to try out my new toy, the soft foam sword (you can buy for a few gold in Orgimmar/Stormwind toy vendors) and it brings the ogre close enough to death to capture it. So no more naked run arounds or killing yourself for the debuff! Hope people find this useful.

This quest provided my friend and I endless amusement.

Modified Soul Orb isn't a single use item, and so we ran around Dire Maul capturing every mage we could find. There was no change in how the quest proceeded once we turned it in to Swar'jan.

But the thought of running back to him with our arms full of tiny, extremely angry ogre mages was amazing, even if he didn't acknowledge our tremendous accomplishment.

So, I’m a level 52 as of now. I ran around blasting them naked for 20 minutes untill I decided to fly high dismount and kill myself then resurect with the resurrection sickness and had to click just in time but it worked. Hope someone else can save themselves some time and just kill yourself then hit them naked👍

Ogre Abduction

Description

There's no way the Gordunni made these. They're being supplied. Someone is giving them gifts of power, and we need to find out who.

The upper-class Gordok that guard Dire Maul will know more about this. Orhan is no doubt having you thin their numbers, but I'll need one alive.

Take the orb back. It's similar to a Soulstone, so I've made some...adjustments. Hold it up in front of a weakened Gordok ogre, and once you've captured him, bring it back here.
