The best encounter is Onyxia's Lair because of the fight dynamics!
Hands down, Wrath-Scryer Soccothrates and Dalliah the Doomsayer. Their dialogue was surprising and immensely entertaining. I make sure to bring anyone that hasn't heard it yet, and they always crack up. Plus as a bonus, they get to see how Millhouse Manastorm started on his rise to infamy!
Favorite encounter?"Run away, little girl!" ,,,,The Big Bad Wolf/Little Red riding hood boss event in the Opera hall in Kara (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=17521#.). I started playing a few months after Burning Crusade came out, and i was a total noob, to say the least. Kara was the very first raid i ever did, and i pretty much sucked on every boss fight until i encountered the Little Red Riding Hood boss event. For some reason, I picked up the whole "kiting " aspect with no problem, and it got to the point where every week i would hope to the big bad wolf event so that i could (hopefully) get turned into little red riding hood and kite the wolf around. I thought it was the cutest freakin' thing to get turned into a gnome sized red riding hood, and run in circles around a room to get away from the scary beast! I guess you could say I'm easily amused. EDIT - algalon comes in a close second, but only because of the pre- and post- fight theatrics and the badass title i picked up ("Starcaller"), the fight itself was just too stressful to coordinate people to do the right thing for it to be my number one. Plus, Big Bad Wolf has way more significance, and possesses more of the cuteness factor. Plus, enjoying the event made it all the more exciting when I finally got my pair of Trial-Fire Trousersahh nostalgia....
The fight I like the most was Kael'Thas in Tempest Keep. First off the way the room forms when you enter his room. Second you kill LEGENDARY weapons AND you get to wear them and use them to kill Kael and his generals. And every weapon has its own special use! Then the fight. He starts casting spells like madman, Flamestrike, summoning Phoenix that keeps back coming to life if you don't kill its egg... He does it all like in WC3! Truly an amazing fight.
I really liked Netherspite in Karazhan. We used to skip him every week because everyone said he was "too hard," then one day we tried it and it was pretty rough, but it really felt like a fight where doing your job was vital to the outcome, and had a lot of wiggle room for creative methods and group composition. Problems with multiple solutions have always been my favorite =)
The Algalon the Observer Encounter Hands Down. From the moment the battle begins and you get "warped" to a battle with the cosmos as a background, (it also reminds me of Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagan)The cold and emotionless voice of a being that reminds you, has fried more worlds with a snap of its fingers(see thousands of worlds bathed in the maker flames) than Deathwing with a really detached, almost godly dialogHe's freaking epically cool beyond anything else, a being made of stellar light that attacks you using black holes, stars, meteorites tears in space time, supernovas and if you screw up it BIG BANGS YOU!...no one else can say that in wow (and again, that reminds me of the antispiral of Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagan)That palpable feeling that your battle against him matters heavily, as the world will be destroyed if you fail. And (if you made it at its moment) was one of the hardest, mind numbing, elite and spectacular battles in wow, only reserved for the best, of the best, of the best, as he is quite literally the bonus boss, that made him even more special and having even the Observed archiv was amazing(let alone: Herald). And to make things even MORE epic Beyond the impossible, when you win, not only he compliments you on your valor (which i believe to battle a being like him takes a lot) and spares the world, but you are treated with an spectacular fireworks/laser beam show as you return to Dalaran, yo show the world just hoy Amazing you are.Oh yeah, Algalon, The Best Encounter in all of wow...now where did i left my drill?
My desktop wallpaper is the first time my guild downed The Lich King. We had been trying for weeks and I actually dropped out of the group because I was getting way too stressed with the fight. Then, one magical night, everything clicked and WE DID IT! It was challenging and exciting, frustrating and stressful, but we did it and I felt such a sense of satisfaction and camaraderie wit my guildees. Good times!
My favourite encounter was Lich King (25) heroic. The amount of preparation it took is fascinating.
Well. I love so many encounters, for so many reasons... but.. if I had to pick one:Al'ar, from Tempest Keep. Anyone who knows me will know how I go on about how beautiful Al'ar is, and it's such a long encounter that I got to see the phoenix almost as long as I wanted to.Then of course, there was the time we had the best attempt thus far, only to be thwarted at around ... 9? percent (phase 2) by having Al'ar glitch into the wall, bugging the fight out and resetting the entire thing. As an encounter it also contained a variety of the more funny possible errors: tanks accidentally running off the edge because they hadn't been standing close enough to it, and of course "don't stand in the fire" moments. And it was real fire too.It was also one of the more pet-control intensive encounters as a hunter, since it was before "pet talents" and thereby pet "immunity" to aoe came about. It actually came a great deal into play making sure my pet got out of the upstairs for the between-tank aoe so I wouldn't have to use up mana to heal or revive him (since mana was a big issue too, since it was also before "hunter focus").
I totally love every encounter in WoW, great job Blizzard, thank you so much! But If I had to chose one it would be C'Thun because of the Eye of C'thun, its beams and of course the Stomach of C'thun. That one was hell of a fight back in my favorite ,good ol', WoW days :) I gotta say Archimonde was pretty epic too. <3
My favorite boss fight would have to be Lady Vashj, the complexity of doing this boss with a half pug group was insane and made the fight exponentially more difficult..But people needed their Vashj's Vial Remnant, and wiping for hours was not that uncommon, sadly....
my favorite encounter is the first hard mode boss in wow, that one with cold heart, that one with strange rules, with one purpose: reoriginate azeroth, and imo, the most epic boss battle, im talking about Algalon the Observer
