One of my younger brother's friends got me into WoW. My brother was definitely a factor as well as he played for a brief bit then quit and went on to Warcraft 3 Battle.net and other MMOs... The friend also stopped playing recently as well, mostly for academic reasons.

I started playing since day one... back in... 5th grade-ish, (lol).I started Horde....Troll warrior, named Tazzuna. Got him to level 6, didn't train, used all my silver on vendor goods, and couldn't kill anything past the Valley of Trials..I wish I had L2P back then... cause now I'm playing a Warrior as a main, and love the class, could only imagine how much fun it'd be back then too. And now I'm Alliance, don't get me wrong; Alliance is cool, but the Horde just appeals way more to me, before Blood Elves at least..and actually....It'd be cooler if he was an Orc... but my friend was in a Troll Phase that he sucked me into.
I found out that a hot girl at work played so I figured I would do it to increase my chances and maybe stop giving my friends grief for selling their souls. Didn't get the girl but found a fun game.
My first MMO was Runescape, back in 2004. Everyone was playing it, so I gave it a try. It was brilliant, if only for someone who has never played an online game before. My friend showed me a few videos of WoW, and said that he was getting it. I occasionally visited his house to play. After that, I was hooked. The next is copypasta from my profile pageI was lured into WoW a few years ago (2005, to be exact) by my friend. Once I had finally had it installed along with The Burning Crusade in February of 2006, I had joined my friend on Chromaggus EU with my first character, Themadness, a Gnome Rogue. I had happily leveled until about level 30, until I bought a name change, and was now known as Fízzles. Soon, Rogues were old. I deleted Fízzles at level 57, opting to level my Warlock, Fizzles. Warlocks got old too, and quit at level 26, early 2008.A few months had passed, and with the coming release of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King expansion, I was motivated to make another Rogue, Immunisation, leveling him to 57, before making Cowbie, and leveling him to around 73. With 2 of my characters shelved, I turned to Bilge, my new Mage, leveling him to 36, before turning back to Cowbie, in charge to 80.I am now leveling Soups to Tank and DPS at 80, with Cowbie semi-retired.
My son introduced me to WoW, in the autumn of 2004 during the beta test. He had managed to get an invitation in September or so. I watched him play for a while, and then tried it myself (creating and playing a Tauren hunter named Bardin during the last few weeks of beta). I have been playing ever since.Would I change things if I could? I do not regret all the time I've spent playing WoW. I have felt slightly guilty every now and then about the fact that my first retail character (and still my main character) is a Night Elf hunter. At the time he was created (at game launch in November 2004) it wasn't nearly the stereotypical choice that it eventually became. One trivial thing I regret doing was completing the Raene's Cleansing quest chain in late 2004, and thus losing Dartol's Rod of Transformation. At the time of WoW's launch, the Rod had five (5) charges. I saw little point in keeping the Rod (via not completing the quest) due to the limited charges available. I did not suspect that Blizzard would later change the Rod to have unlimited charges. Sigh!
