Blacksmithing/Jewelcrafting..Worth it?

Well, I've finished leveling my DK, and plan to make him my main. Originally went with Mining/Skinning, just to save time skilling up.
Been considering which profs I want to do now. Originally was thinking Mining/BS, but then thought about combining the Prismatic gems from JC with the extra sockets for BS for extra stats.
Worth it?
As far as gear level and stuff like that for me, will end up mostly in crafted / rep rewards, most likely. I don 't group/raid, and I probably don't PVP enough to get the gear. I mostly just solo things as an AE spec.
So, my gear would be behind most people. Which is why the thought of JC/BS popped up.. Every little bit to advance my gear would help, I thought.
But, simply curious if it is actually worth the hassle to go through and level both or not? Already started JC, but am still quite low in skill, so if not I can always drop and pick up BS or something *shrugs*

Get obscenely rich with dual-gathering, and use the extra money to buy expensive enchants, gear, and BoE crafteds to compensate for the minor stat losses. Crafting is for min-maxers, which you don't seem to be interested in. Nobody will think less of you for it, and you won't cause yourself multiple aneurysms.

I ran into a similar dilema, I decided that jewelcrafting would give me for tanking 41 stam (x3) gems a 17 (51) point improvement per gem over the 24 stamina available ones now. However if I kept minning it would be 50 stam (500 hit points now but will be changed soon).
So in the end I felt I should keep max minning and lose the 1 point over stamina. The trinkets are nice but are going to be replaced. Go BS/mine especialy for the new swords currently in the works on the public test realm.

Yeah, worth it imo, but I'm a semi hardcore holy paladin (healer roll leader in the guild) and so, am already miner/bs (both max) and dropping mining for jc to max once I've farmed the mats. Leveling my DK to 80 for the mining (or at least 77 so he can have the epic flyer to farm ores quicker in unholy spec)
Definatly have an alt as a miner (your other level 70 I'd assume as you have a dk, you obviously have a highish other toon) it will save alot :-)
