Judging by the fact that languages appear in your skills window, I believe they had thought of this at one point. But I doubt they will allow Horde to learn Alliance languages, and vice versa.
What I really want to know is, why can't my Orc learn Gutterspeak?

I just don't see how it would fit into the lore of the game. Alliance and Horde are considered to be enemies, so why would they want to learn their native tongue?

For those of us who have been playing since release back in Nov 04 remember a time when Blizzard actually advertised that your characters would have the ability to learn the opposing faction's languages.
Initially you could communicate with them by typing /emote (then sentence). It would translate literally so you could have a cogent conversation. But Bliz took that out of the game.
Then people discovered you could use a priest to Mind Control an opposing player and use their character to talk with the opposite faction. Bliz took this out of the game as well.
My only personal assumption is that Blizzard has purposefully not put in the feature to learn the other languages in an effort to maintain a certain environment. If you think about it, would you be as likely to roflstomp some dude if he could speak with you? Most people wouldn't, I probably would just out of spite for all those alliance zerg-fests I have endured.
Nice to see a post that is different from the norm.

Oh yes, let us not forget how you used to be able to communicate with members of the same faction while in the arenas. Blizzard took this out of the game as well.
As I kind of eluded to in my other post, I am willing to bet this is to maintain a certain atmosphere. Maybe one where the players taunts and trash talk would be limited to a few simple /love and /spit emotes.

So you could thwart enemy plans....how old are you? We do this in reality how could not come to that conclusion?
how old are you?
I'm beginning to wonder the same thing about you, Zaviel.

It fits into the lore perfectly. Remember, Thrall was raised by humans, The Forsaken is a group of undead from all races and let us not forget the Wrath Gate of Angrathar video, in which the leaders of the Horde and Alliance worked together and communicated freely. There was actually a brief time in the game when Alliance and Horde could speak to each other through manual emotes but, from what I remember, things got out of hand and Blizzard removed it.
I have a feeling there will be some mode of communication between the two factions if the available quests tell us anything. The Forsaken attack both Horde and Alliance. The Horde and Alliance raid Undercity. There has to be some communication between the two major factions, and I would hope Activision will give players some access to this.

Did anybody else realize that Horde and Alliance could communicate if they were both infected during the zombie phase of the Scourge Invasion?
