Warlords of Draenor Discussion [Topic by Topic] New Topic 11/13

After some helpful insights, I've edited the thread name.
First topic begins at the bottom of this post
I
(and clearly others)
felt that the 'official' discussion threads were a little bit cluttered with all of the prize interest. But thankfully, this is something we can fix ourselves! I'll introduce topics from the Blizzcon info and we can kick them around all we like and hopefully get some relevant discussion going.
Obviously I can't stop anyone from trailing off on tangents but in the interest of a useful thread I'm going to ask everyone to stick to each topic until another is introduced.
Garrisons!
What sounds good.
I must admit, this whole concept sounds pretty amazing. The apparent depth involved in not only acquiring but also in leveling and outfitting your followers sounds practically like an entire game in itself. I hope they go huge with this idea like fending off attacks in personal/small group scenarios and forming 'trade alliances' with other players.
What sounds not so good.
Two pretty big concerns. One farm was just fine for all of my characters, but as they exist now, Garrisons are unique to each character and don't currently benefit any other characters on your account. If they are as integral to progress as Blizzard is making them sound, my roster is going to get a whole lot smaller. In addition, Garrisons will occupy the 'same' spot in each zone as other Garrisons in that zone through the use of 'heavy phasing'. I still have nightmares about stopping by Lagaran during WotLK, and a new comp is still a ways off for myself. They've been using this tech for a while, I know, but I shudder at the thought.
Bring the noise, folks!
Edited to highlight the single topic request.

I do really like the idea of public housing. Hahaha, anyway. I was wondering if you maybe had played Asheron's call before WOW? They had an interesting situation with housing. You could look into that for some ideas if you had the free time.
One thing I just don't get is why it would be for just one toon on your account and not all... That is going to be a lot of stress on the servers no? With them joining realms and such would that have an effect on the way the servers ran? We also have a few games coming out using those same servers, unless of course they use separate ones for each game?
Any who I would like the idea of guild Mansions like Asheron's call had. They gave you buffs... They could technically give you rest XP there. You could Hearth there it wouldn't be terribly bad idea at all. You could build anywhere the team at blizzard zones out. Right next to the cave in Tanaris or in front of ahn quiraj. lmao
Edit: On that little island that caused the race for northrend... Can anything actually fit on that slice of poo anyways? wait why did they fight for that little piece of land no on could launch a large enough attack from there why did that island matter at all?

Following your example. What sounds good? Garrosh. I love Garrosh, he is a amazing character and villain, and having him not just being the end boss of this expansion but also a villain in the next...I just love it.
What sounds not so good: The expansion seems not epic enough. I expected demons, burning legion, or something more epic to fight than orcs, arrokkoa and undead Draneis (guessing). I did that at lvl 60:ish. When you have defeated Illidan, Ulduar, Khel Tuzad, Lich King, Ragnaros and Deathwing etc. fighting named Orc-bosses (guessing) feels kinda not so epic. Especially since MoP ended with that...named Orcs with warrior abilities on steroids. I want something more epic this time!

A little too early to judge don't you think?
Personally I think Blizzard are giving many exactly what they want, more of BC/Outland.
Kil'jaeden still has unfinished business, and who knows we might even see Sargeras himself.

This expansion is in the past, so bringing Kil'jaeden in as a boss seems highly unlikely as that would really mess up the storylines and turn him into another Kael'thas debacle. It's possible he'll make appearances as a non-fightable NPC during quests or visions however.
I can't see Sargeras as anything but the final boss of WoW, and I definitely don't see him fitting into the WoD design from what I've seen so far.
I personally love being able to go back to Outland before it became Outland, and joining with/fighting against famous Orcs. Even if the expansion doesn't seem to have a major badguy like the Lich King or Deathwing (yet) it's already far superior to the horrible story of MoP.

Sargeras is a titan... we def couldn't defeat him. It wouldn't be possible.
That would be like a man with a hammer going toe to toe with an ant with crippled legs.
Sargeras would shake us off like fleas... LMAO kind of reminds me of George Carlins stand up on earth about pollution.

This is my two cents. I'm not buying into the whole 'time travel is a cop out thing'. If it's done right it works. Named orcs being bosses works because we get to see npc characters that we've only heard about.
What have we heard? Grom was a hero. Thrall (a hero in his own right) was astonished to learn that his brethren survived in Outland (relevant to current TBC content). Now we get to experience a 'back to the futuresque' perspective of what Draenor was like prior to TBC.
It's a win-win if you ask me, and as long as 'Garrosh's trip back in time' makes sense, then we are set for an epic story that will unfold before our eyes.

Garrisons are a bit meh to me. The customization is minor (oh look, you placed a Mage tower on the Hill, while I placed mine down by the river - big deal). I have no friends to show it off to anyway, so meh. Also, I will have all profs covered, so won't really have use for the prof buildings. Followers may be interesting, but I think I might want to go earn gear myself.
Boosting to 90 doesn't interest me, because all my alts will already be 90.
New character models will be very welcome.
The thing I'm most excited about is the changes to questing. Rewards can randomly be rare or epic, and they're adding chests for exploration addicts.
Of course, 7 zones with hundreds of quests and 10 levels to grind though will be my bread and butter this expansion.
The extra valor for queuing as a group will be a nice touch. Especially as it applies to re-queues.
Getting rid of Hit/Expertise and reforging will be great. Not having to strive for that hit cap - awesome.
Item squish will be a non-issue. I was playing in the starting zone, and inspected my gear. It was all iLvL 528, but I wondering why I had crappy gems giving +8 Intellect LOL. I didn't actually notice the stats on the gear themselves :)
They said in the Q&A that they're thinking of adding 5-mans to patches, so that's good. They're thinking of how to make it so the others don't become so obsolete.
That's all for now. I'm sure I've forgotten something. Thanks for starting the thread OP.

@Lankybrit
I think your post all but gives full credit to what Blizzard is trying to do with this expansion. And it's a progression (no pun intended) of what they've been trying to achieve with each of the last two xpacs. That being: get something in there for everybody.

Are we taking one topic at a time?
I'm a little worried about garrisons actually- they compared them to farm, and how farming was key to leveling cooking in MoP. I only leveled cooking/farm on one toon, (my main can support my alts easily, most dont have cooking)and actually have not visited my farm for months. I am not looking forward to leveling a garrison on multiple toons so I can level my professions. Although the idea of not wasting a daily cool down cause you haven't logged in sounds good. Hopefully they will figure a way to make garrisons account-bound.

In the Q&A the question was brought up about (as it relates to garrisons specifically) alts being followers... If something comes out of that, I think it could be awesome...

Yes, please stick to one topic at a time, but feel free to talk about an conflicts/synergies you see with other announcements.

I take it you were at Blizzcon, lanky? My jealousy aside, they certainly made it sound like the Garrison would be a pretty integral part of progression, so the taste you may have gotten probably isn't a good representation of how it would play out over an entire expansion. That aside, it would have been nice to hear that it's as cool as it sounds. BTW, you can always show it off to me, I love this kind of townbuilding stuff! Just don't ask me to give you any
energy....
I am keeping up and am noting poster interests! Let's keep things going with Garrisons until everyone has had their say!

Hey OP. I missed the bit where you said let's stick to Garrisons. But why? I think a general thread on WoD that doesn't have a prize involved is just what the forums need right now.
BTW: Yes, I was at Blizzcon.

Last line of my first paragraph, but I'll edit the post to make it stand out a bit more. I certainly plan to cover as much as possible, but if we take things one topic at a time, I can turn this into an impromptu 'guide' to our discussions. I'll add anchors to the topic changes and then link them to the first post. That way folks can find the stuff they are interested in or find replies more readily. If it gets really big and folks want to stick with a subject, I'll see if can get with the mods about breaking it up into individual threads.
@Sas: No worries, I don't mind picking it apart if need be.(##RESPBREAK##)2060##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##Just FYI, we don't have any ability to pick apart existing threads thereby making them into new ones. Other than manually of course but anyone has that ability.

If Garrison's become something you can invest a lot of time in, and not in a repetitive way, then I'm really liking that idea. I'd love to have it be a major source of prof mat farming.
The more unique quest chains there are the better, so having them for those workers that come to your Garrison is great.
More variety in gameplay is moving in the right direction and the Garrison sure is a big change. The farm in MOP was fun for awhile but it eventually suffered the fate of being merely doing the same thing every day, which leads to eventual boredom.

As an RPer, the idea of having your own phased town that you can invite other people into is nothing short of epic. :D The opportunities are too endless to list!

The Good: Pretty much everything I don't list in the Bad.
The Bad: The gearing system worries me, with the additions to making every plate wearer roll on the same gear regardless of stat is going to be horrible for gearing but also the fact that with the addition of tertiary stats people who already have that gear will be needing on it again so that they can get a new tertiary stat. Simply not a fan of the random chance for epic gear from questing, I feel that they are giving out epic a bit too much which kind of diminishes from the feel of getting new gear and it being epic.

There are random world drop epics already, they are just mostly useless as they are only to be found in 1-60 zones. Blizzard is trying to incorporate more of the old game feel into the modern version, partly, I suspect, to assuage the calls for a return to Vanilla WoW.
Besides which, you aren't going to be able to farm these things, and they are more than likely to be less powerful than the offerings of the first tier which will make them undesirable from patch 6.1 onwards. It's not like they are going to be as common as raindrops in the Amazon and powerful enough to carry you through to 7.0.
