I dread this fight the most in raid finder, because so far I been garrenteed to wipe the first 3 or 4 times due to the enrage timer.
I do understand the mechanics, but it feels to me how everyone is currently doing it is all wrong. Currently, 'everyone' is required to switch to adds when they spawn, and switch to healers during the berserker stance. the problem comes from when everyone is order to stop dpsing the boss during defensive stance. He sits in this stance for one minute every time he brings it up, and every single time I'm left almost completely doing nothing since all the adds are already dead. And considering he does this 3 times during the encounter that's likea 3 min dps loss.
Call me crazy, but would it not be easier to kill healing adds and CC the rest for the defensive phase, or is CC not an option?

A few pointers.
Cant really CC them. You can try to control them but that will absorb your attention away from the boss. There are 3 melee adds and 1 ranged adds. 1-2 of the melee adds must be kept away from people and boss at all time. Shaman must be kept away from boss (if he spawns a healing totem in range of boss its game over). Mage must be interrupted. Shaman must be interrupted as well. Of all these adds only the warrior(ironblade) guy is easily controllable by any ranged class with a snare. Assasin guy must be faced at all times (which may cause you troubles whenever dodging boss abilities) by whoever has a mark and may require some additional healing so that requires a bit more attention - if its a melee, he will have to dps the add, if a ranged he can dps boss. I guess you are safe leaving those two aliave if people know how to handle them.
If you are pet class (lock, frost mage, hunter) you can safely leave your pet attacking Nazgrim
If you have any snares, roots and interrupts just make sure adds are being handled as smooth as possible. 60 seconds isnt really long.
Make sure you dodge every single of Nazgrim abilities and be on your toes to kill Warbanner fast
I fail to see how you can consider executing fight mechanics properly, a dps loss
You may reach enrage timer because of how bad dps of your group is defensive stance may have nothing to do with it, you just reached a dps check you cant handle - come back when people learn how to dps
Ah, wait. Raid finder. Scratch everything i wrote about people knowing how to handle things and any coordination.

this week i learned that spamming LFR a lot with raidwarning like: FOCUS SHAMAN NOW!
really made even the most stubborn dps switch so i would stop spamming it.
taking a moment too explain on priorities also paid off, and i kept hammering on the fact everyone should use interrupts/stuns.
made the kill overall a lot smoother, then the previous week.

He has been severly nerfed now so you can just faceroll it.
General Nazgrim
Changes on Raid Finder difficulty:
General Nazgrim's health has been reduced by 10%.
General Nazgrim's Ravager now hits for 200,000 damage.
General Nazgrim now gains 1 Rage when struck in Defensive Stance (down from 2 Rage).
General Nazgrim now gains 2 Rage for each target struck by Heroic Shockwave's Aftershocks (down from 3 Rage).
General Nazgrim now gains 2 Rage from Kor'kron Banner (down from 3 Rage).
Kor'kron Warshaman's Earth Shield now heals for 2% of maximum health (down from 5%).
Kor'kron Warshaman's Empowered Chain Heal now heals for 4% of maximum health (down from 10%).

In LFR, attacking Nazgrim during defensive stance has rarely been an issue. It just makes him cast his abilities a little bit more often, what a big deal. Nazgrim's raid damage was not the thing that made 90% of the LFR groups I have in fail, it was his berserk timer and people not making it (due to a combination of low dps and missed interrupts on shamans).
Personally, I am totally fine if people keep nuking him during Def in LFR, provided that they can dodge the axes.
What I really don't like is when people are explaining the fight, they use all the big emphasis on explaining in great detail how attacking him in Defensive stance is the worst thing known to mankind, and then they just drop a little note about there being some healers who can significantly heal the boss. Some people are very clumsy with emphasizing in general.

@Thror: "Provided they dodge the axes." Fellows already have difficulty dodging Aftershock.
Also, if they are nuking Nazgrim, they are NOT nuking the adds. That's the problem. You yourself noted the missed interrupts on shamans. If more DPS are on the adds (especially shaman), one of them might have that interrupt you need.

It's a dps fight. From my experience, groups wipe from:
-Adds not being killed. In groups where adds are being killed as soon as they spawn, it's almost impossible to wipe. The way I explain the fight to new people is the goal of the fight is not to kill the boss it is to kill adds, if they happen to kill the boss while doing that even better.
-People standing in axe - Not much you can do about this.
-Spinning blade guys being kited to group, tanks - Anyone with stun/strangulate/root/slow can use it on the spinning blade guys to make it a much easier fight so ranged can take them out. Whatever you do just don't freak out if you have aggro and kite them to the tanks or healers like I've seen so many people do.
-People ignoring defense stance and continuing to do 200k+ dps on boss while on defense stance because "it's LFR and who cares lololololo #yolo"
-Ignoring adds in last 20% and burning boss - This never works. Some people do it because they once did it with overgeared tanks who can handle all the adds while the other has excess stacks of sundering blow an in theory it sounds easy but it's completely unnecessary and most pickup/LFR groups can't handle it. If adds are being killed up to the last 1% you will win.

You can safely leave your pet attacking Nazgrim;
if you want to wipe it.
Nazgrim generates rage per hit in defensive stance, the only hits that do -not- cause him to generate rage are from persons with
Sundering Blow
, aka tanks. Unless your pet is taunting, tanking and has stacks of before-mentioned ability,
take it off Nazgrim because it will cause him to generate rage.
This goes for all hunter pets, Monks
Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger
, Mages
Summon Water Elemental
, Dks
Raise Dead
and
Army of the Dead
and even Priests
Shadowfiend
/
Mindbender
.
So please get your pets off Nazgrim, for all of our repair bills sake.

Pet's don't generate rage. Using an ability which causes pet damage (i.e. Kill Command, Optical Blast) will generate rage.
What was initially stated by Zakkhar is correct, leave your pets on the boss and safely enjoy the additional damage during defensive stance.

Pets can safely stay on Naz, they don't generate Rage. Same with pre-existing dots. There was a Blue post about this a few months ago, but I'm having no luck in finding it.
Also pets can't taunt raid level bosses.
-People ignoring defense stance and continuing to do 200k+ dps on boss while on defense stance because "it's LFR and who cares lololololo #yolo"

With the nerf to Rage generation in Defensive Stance in LFR that happened a few months ago, it is possible to just ignore it. It's only generating 1 Rage per second, the same as Battle Stance, so it's not a big deal, plus Ravagers (the spinning axes) only do half damage and are easy to avoid. Plus half the people are too brain dead to stop attacking anyway, so he's going to generate that Rage regardless, and since he caps at 1 Rage/s why not speed up the fight?
Not killing a Banner right off will usually generate more Rage than hitting him during Defensive stance (2 Rage per ally attack).
From my experience a wipe under 20% isn't because of the total number of adds, but because of the Shamans healing him. So if the group is coordinated enough to lock down all the Shamans then it's safe to burn him. It's when he goes from 1% to 5% to 9% in under a second which causes the problems, because now you're stuck with an alive boss and a bunch of adds. But if you can stop the heals then you can kill him before the adds become a problem. So it's not a tank issue (geared enough to handle them, or not) it's a boss being healed issue.
However this is LFR so it's unlikely for that level of coordination or awareness, so it's better to just kill everything and not burn him.
