Wrathion fight impossible for average-geared rogues?

I was so excited to finally get my 12th Runestone, because I knew that shiny new ilvl 600 cloak would soon be on my back. Unfortunately, after 35+ attempts at the challenge fight with Wrathion, I'm starting to think I won't see that cloak until at least next patch. The melee dps challenge is not only bugged (adds that don't die, aoe graphics that show the wrong place to stand, etc.), but it is nearly impossible for an average or average+ geared rogue. I'm 522 right now (
armory
), but my weapons are 510 (502 lfr +8), and without that extra dps from better weapons I'm finding it impossible to kill adds quickly enough, or to burn Wrathion fast enough to beat this fight.
I've read/watched everything I could on the fight, and I've tried both Combat and Assassination spec. I've buffed pre-fight. I've macro'd every survivability cd i can think of. Nothing seems to work.
Has anyone completed this quest with anything less than 522 weapons? If so, how did you do it?

keep in mind this is a quest that is gearing up for a legendary item. This is not supposed to be easy. Just keep grinding, keep upgrading and honing your skills. If this was supposed to be easy, they would have just said go kill Hogger and receiver your epic loot. Did that tank one for over 2 hours last night, getting closer and closer. Finally got mine today on the first try of the day.

Gratz on your win. Not to take away from your achievement, but the Blizz forums are full of people who found the melee fight too hard and respec'd to do the tank quest since it was easier (especially if you add the Shado-Pan helper). You get your choice of cloaks at the end of any of the four fights, so picking the easiest is natural. Unfortunately for rogues, we're stuck with melee dps in three different forms.
I'm also near-max on gear/upgrading for being in a weak raiding guild on a weak raiding server, which is why I was asking about people with my level and how they've done on the fight. All of the successful fights I've seen/read about were from people 15-20 levels above me with better weapons (weapon level being the single greatest influence on rogue dps, far above agility/haste/hit/crit).

I know exactly how you feel. I completed the fight with ilvl 521 and 2 x 510 daggers after some 20-25 tries.
I posted a short description under the quest itself which might help you.
But I assume you've already tried this approach.
The three most important things for me were:
- Knowing when to reset the fight when he spawned the adds too early.
- Making sure all the adds die at the same time (more or less).
- Getting him blinded when he runs to the center to spawn his images to deal with the adds for the second time.

Try using crippling poisons and slowing down the adds, then kite Wrathion away from the adds just before he casts his 180 degree aoe. You shouldn't be taking too much damage so not having leeching poisons isn't a big deal. (I think) the adds get a speed buff the more times they get killed.

Actually, this isn't even a "dps" fight. It's a skill fight. Remember the first rule of dps.. DON'T STAND IN SH*.......
So here is what you do. Buff up and use deadly and crippling poison. The crippling poison is to slow the adds that will spawn later.
Open with a cheap shot, ambush, backstab, use your stuns and put your bleeds on him, build a few combo points (5 if possible) and save them.. use these to constantly keep recuperate up. Kite the adds using fan of knives and try to keep Wrathion targeted, to build more combo points. Vanish, and hit him again. Keep kiting the adds back to wrathion and keep spamming fan of knives. Use vanish and land a few good whacks, and keep your dots and bleeds up. Rince and repeat until he dies. Remember, you aren't trying to top the dps meter, you are trying to stay alive longer than Wrathion does.

Also, though it may be in some of the guide comments, spend the time to farm the 3 "Piju" brews from Timeless Isle! They will make the fight trivial!

I did the melee on my monk, but he has a really good AoE (spin attack) so I beat down the mobs quickly..I too am having problems on my rogue..
