Raid Cooldowns and good to know facts.
Return to board index
Post by
Verdie
I have been looking for a good list to keep with Raid CD's and easy access explanations for new players / raid members about their and other team members cooldowns.
I Could not find one, so i decided to make one and share it with you, in case someone else finds it helpfull. If you have anything to add / ask i'll be glad to get feedback.
First i will explain the fact that there is 3 kinds of Raid CD's to see.
Raid Cooldowns
that affect multiple raid members.
External Cooldowns
that can affect another person other than the caster.
Personal Cooldowns
that only affect the caster.
The types of these cooldowns are divided by these factors and in addition by their effect.

You have really put a lot of time and research into this post, and it shows :)
You really should consider making a guide for the Raids and Boss Fights Guides section of the site. With some formatting, such as putting each classes cool downs in a tabbed table, this would be a great resource.
Post by
Dragalthor
I agree with SoCal and that this would make a really good guide. Maybe also add a column with what the actual length of the cool down is so that you can see it at a glance without having to mouse-over for the tooltip.

Aww, thanks
SoCal
and
Draga
for the kind and dare I say ~ too fast replys, lol :)
The Guide took me abit longer to type than i thought, will think about adding the effective times to the spells and maybe CD timers. Will consider turning it into a full guide when I have more time to type, I have a habbit of getting Too into such things and that takes time. :)

Very nice list, and an eye opener to see just how many cooldowns WoW actually has. I agree with SoCal and Draga that this would make a great guide!
Few minor things:
- You're missing the close Italic tag for Remorseless Winter (DK)
- The third Dark Soul ability is missing it's ""s (Warlock)
-
Vampiric Touch
is missing for Priests, which restores Mana
- Your consistently using the specialization abbreviation "speck / specked". I'm guessing you're playing on a non-English client, but it should be "spec / specced" (minor thing, but something that stuck out for me)
There's quite a few mistypes and missing or weird capitalization, which is understandable giving the huge amount of typing, but something you might want to look at if you ever end up turning this into an actual guide.
This is just meant as constructive feedback and nothing else!
Post by
Verdie
Noted, fixed, sorry for the mistypes etc, it was about 4-9 am when i typed this to this format with spell ID hunting, thanks for the feedback.
For Vampiric Touch i dont consider it as much of a raid CD since it should be always on the target and has not much of cooldown anyways and it benefits only the priest.
If i list each ability and spell from each class this list is quite pointless. ;)
Thanks for reading and thanks for the comment.

Great list!
My OCD agrees with Calaelen that there's some weird capitalization and similar, though. :9 It's not a big thing, but consistent formatting makes it easier on the eyes. A small tip is to use the replace function in any notepad program with case sensitive option checked - for example you could search and replace "
(Beneficial
" (yes,
without
the closing parenthesis because you've written more things after it in some cases) with "
(beneficial
" to make all of them start with a lower case. Similarly you could fix many of the missing spaces after commas with for example replacing "
,defensive
" with "
, defensive
".
Might be easier to fix the spaces manually though, since there's a bunch off odd capitalizations next to them you'll probably want to fix manually anyway. For what it's worth I think everything within the parentheses should be lower case (including the first letter because the ability names that come before the parentheses are already capitalized) with the exception of "DPS" (though you could also replace it with a simple "damage") and possibly class specializations. If I were you I'd also consider typing out class specialization names fully instead of using partial words like "enha" and "subt".

Guardian of Ancient Kings is missing it's close "]" for the Retribution version.
In regards to Vampiric Touch, you're right. I was just thinking of the mana replenishment benefit of the ability, and didn't stop to think that it's a spammable ability and not a cooldown!

It is an extensive list which is extremely informative, the Symbiosis list is very useful however you are missing a lot of Hunter Pet Buffs and have biased towards BM making Survival and MM seem useless - they can outperform BM depending on the encounter mechanics.
A hunter can bring an entire stampede to a raid and cover the majority of raid buffs which would be required in an encounter.
Please message me if you would like further details about Hunter Pets and the buffs or debuffs they can bestow on a raid or target and make your list about as complete and awesome as possible.
I have already linked this on my guild forums to help people introduce themselves to WoW, keep up the good work! :)

The list is missing some symbiosis effects aswell since I am more focused on raid wise usable abilities and cutting some useless and confusing information.
Raid wise for CD's (in case of getting them from anyone else) BM hunters are quite more usefull, they will slack abit on dps but in case raid is missing CR for an example Bm hunter is nice to have around. DPS wise survival is quite more handy in many occasions, they just dont have that much CD's to list.
Thanks for reading and commenting tho, I'm not sure if i plan on making hunter pet list for each buff if i dont make a buff list totally for each class in the same, since would seem abit silly to list only common buffs from pets alone. Did not list some abilities either since some are not that usefull raid-wise and for example the listed -50% cast time has bugged spell effect description in wowhead so didn't link it around. :)
Thank you for the idea thought, if you want to gather up hunter pet details and buffs i'd be happy to make the rest of the list for buffs and add it to the post. I'm abit low on time atm and I think i'm using more time editing the "capitalizations" etc than researching for more info atm. ;) Lol.
Anyways, thanks to others that have commented and read this and thank you for sharing the list aswell, will keep on fixing and editing it whenever i have time. :)
