As a healer, should I worry about DPS? [Resto Druid]

I'm about 2-3 weeks new to WoW, and I've been trying out almost every class 1-20 through the starter edition, so I can really get a good grasp on what I would like to level when I upgrade to a full account. So, I decided to make a Night Elf Resto Druid today, and I quested him to level 15. I usually jump right into dungeons at 15 to get better gear and to get all that exp, so that's what I did. I know low level dungeons are kind of a joke, seeing as pretty much anyone could tank/heal the dungeons, so I found myself just running around not really doing anything other than healing the tanks/dps whenever they happened to get hit for a good amount of HP.

TL;DR - My question is, as a Resto Druid, if nobody needs a heal, should i switch into my cat form (I can switch between cat and regular with the click of my middle mouse button) and start pounding away at the mobs until someone needs a heal, then switch back to my regular form, or should I just focus on healing?

Should you worry about your DPS as a healer? Absolutely not, as a healer your job is making sure that everyone stays alive, that's it.

Should you DPS if healing isn't needed? Yes. Helping in DPS will only speed up the run, so if you don't mind doing it and it's safe than by all means do it. However, if you are uncomfortable with it and aren't sure if you'd be able to throw out a heal in time if someone takes a big hit, you're better off just sitting back and not doing anything.

I haven't really played my Druid since Cataclysm, so I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you still have some DPS abilities you can use in caster form such as Moonfire and Wrath which you can throw out without the need to swap forms.

What everyone else said. As an healer your job is to keep everyone alive. If you aren't actively healing/buffing/dispelling, you should be prepping to do those things. The last thing you want to have happen is to have your healer trying to dps when suddenly the tank takes a big burst damage or something and needs to be healed immediately.

Since you won't have good gear for dpsing anyway, just throw out whatever dps you can when it is safe for you to do it. Make sure you keep plenty of mana ready for healing though. Like I said, your job is to keep people alive, and if you go out of mana from trying to add dps, you won't be doing that. Raiding and dungeoning are like team sports: each person has a certain job to do, and your first priority is to make sure that you are fulfilling your function.
