Battle Pets : Self Training Vs. Catching High Level Pets

I decided to try out Pet Battles and read a few guides and forum threads to get started. While I have answers to most of my questions one remains unanswered.
Is there any difference in stats between
trainig a pet myself
and
catching one that already has a high level
?
For example if I catch a Fawn in Elwynn Forest at Lvl 1 and train it to Lvl 20 and after that I go to Grizzly Hills and catch a Lvl 20 Fawn of exactly the same race, gender, breed and quality would their stats be identical?
Everything I've read so far indicates that they would indeed be identical, but no one adressed the issue directly. I've tried guides, the forums and google, but either I'm to dumb to search or this info is really hard to find.
Can anyone tell me if this is 100% sure? And give me
a reliable source
for it?
Thanks in advance!

It's not Pokemon heh; all of the stats are preprogrammed into the game, and only the quality of the pet makes them differ: IE all gray pets have the same stats, all whites do, all greens and all blues.

No they don't. There are different breeds (internal id) which have different stats even within the same quality. So a level 1 green quality "Frog" might have different stats from another level 1 green quality "Frog" if they're of a different breed. And there's certainly a stat difference between different pet types (a green Skunk will be different than a green Toad of the same level).
However, as far as I know, the stats are the same for all breed-quality matches, so a green "Health" breed frog will be the same regardless of if you caught it or leveled it.

That's what I meant BigH.

There are 3 variables. If all three are the same, the pet will be exactly the same no matter if you raised it from level 1 or caught it at level 20
1. Level of the pet
2. Rarity of the pet
3. Breed of the pet - Two pets can have the same level and same rarity, but could have a different breed ( this is a hidden thing). What happens with different breeds is just stat allocation. The total stats will be the same, but they could be shifted around a bit. Some hardcore people prefer only the fastest breed (ie, less health and less attack power), but most people don´t even know about it.
But to answer your question. No, it doesn´t matter. There is no advantage to either method. If they have the same level, rarity and breed, they would be exactly the same.

A lvl1-2 frog you levelled all the way up to level 25 is way cooler than someone you tamed at lvl 20 and grinded out just a few lvls with. This coolness factor doesnt show in stats or anything, but its still present when you use that particular pet.
If you tamed it at a high level you will just use the pet as a tool because of its abilities, if you tamed it at low level the pet will have a personality, pride, authority and integrity and deserves respect.
