Last time I played my protection warrior was before 4.3...
I want to roll a tank class; I have narrowed it down to warrior or druid.
Which 1 to go for?
Is warrior tanking similar to what it was back in wrath/cata?

Warrior!
Bears are rare, but I've heard their mitigation isn't up to snuff compared to other classes. I've never really rolled a bear so I'm not the best source of info on them. But I do play a warrior and I wub it, and always have.
Tanking in general in MoP is based a lot on mitigation and watching your cooldowns and your surroundings. I felt like warrior tanking didn't change a
whole
lot, but some people beg to differ. If you don't watch your cooldowns there ends up being a lot of spike damage taken which can make your healer upset.

I am kinda inclined to play the least popular class; maybe they have a much lower chance of getting nerfed :P

That's one way to look at it! I've really only played warrior since I started, so I favor them above all. My bear is at 30 and has been sitting there for a year :/
In all honesty though, the best bet is to just go at it and see what you like :)

Is it just my perception, or are a lot of people coming back as of late to check things out?

They always have, but I guess MoP indeed attracts more people who quit in Vanilla/BC than WotLK/Cata did.
