They wrote bloody books about it.
There are five dungeons and a raid about it.

Seems not very common though
That's because, if you actually read the article on the Bronze Flight, you'd understand why.

So is the time traveling only for in game purposes. Or does it exist in lore canon as well?
....
Bronze. Dragonflight.
Charged. With. Dominion. Over. Time. Traveling.

The greatest members of the Pantheon imbued a portion of their power upon each of the flights' leaders. Aman'Thul, the Highfather of the Pantheon, bestowed a portion of his cosmic power upon the massive bronze dragon, Nozdormu. The Highfather empowered Nozdormu to guard time itself and police the ever-spinning pathways of fate and destiny. The stoic, honorable Nozdormu became known as the Timeless One
Bronze dragons exist to keep the time stream inviolate and the order of events progressing as the fates intended.

The Infinite Dragonflight who are former members of the Bronze Dragonflight have seemingly only one goal: destroying the true timeway.
The Infinite Dragonflight under the command of Murozond appear in the three of the four Caverns of Time instances and are attempting to prevent crucial events in Azeroth's history from occurring.
The mysterious figure known as Murozond interferes with Nozdormu's efforts to send the adventurers back in time to the Well of Eternity in order to recover the Dragon Soul which can be used to avert the tragic state the world is heading towards, if Deathwing is not stopped.

The caverns act as a crossroads for the various timelines, and through them one can travel back and forth along the ebb and flow of time.
During Thrall's journey during the events of Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects, Thrall and Desharin ventured to the Caverns. Thrall learned about the timeways such as one, where he escapes from Durnholde. While they were meditating, an agent attacked them and killed Desharin. Thrall was then tossed to a portal by a bronze dragon and began his journey through the past and was able to release Nozdormu.

I might have not read it properly, but it sounds more like traveling to another dimension or universe rather than actual time travel.
Do the events that a character makes while "time traveling" alter anything?
If not then I don't think that would be classified as time travel.
They're traveling to different eras of the timestream.
There are multiple timelines that lead to multiple ends, but only one of them is the "true" timeline and the Bronze have to make sure it stays as close to proper as it can.
I've made the butterfly effect arguement before: we agree the Bronze do a fairly good job of making sure we don't screw up anything more than we need to.
The infinite dragonflight DID succeed in changing at least two timelines. One where they actually killed Thrall, and another one where Deathwing won.

Its very important that you read the article of the bronze dragonflight, caverns of time, and infinite dragonflight before you keep asking these questions. No any time travel we do won't change the events in the timeline because when we travel, its always with the blessing of the dragons. THEY LET US travel to the past, or the future, but they do so in order for us to fix the timeline, not mess it up further.
When someone alters an event in the past (That's what the Infinite Dragonflight does, they travel in time and go change a bunch of stuff in the past) the bronze dragons travel to the past, and in extreme situations, they send US to the past too, to help them fix the mistake, and put the timeline back to where it was.
So we don't do casual time travel, we only travel when something gets altered, and its our job to put it back together.

I don't think that was the work of the infinites though, there are infinite alternate timelines in the universe, and they're not gonna be all identical, there's gonna be differences between them, there may be an alternate timeline where Thrall and Jaina got married, another one where Anduin grows to become an evil Tyrant, another one where Baine leads the twilight hammer, etc. An infinite universe of possibility. And those 2 timelines we see on that book where Thrall died, and the other one where deathwing won, are just 2 out of those infinite timelines.
After all Nozdormu has said that he's seen himself die in thousands of different ways before, meaning that events being different in other alternate timelines is natural

From a storytelling prespective: magical time travel is possible, but the Bronze won't be happy about it.

what the..... how come I've never heard of them before?
And Dragons are a bit hypocritical about their own rules regarding tampering with the past. After all, Krasus changed the past when they traveled to the war of the ancients, hiding that cache of blue eggs.
And wouldn't had hesitated in preventing the creation of Deathwing by ratting Neltharion out to the rest of the aspects, only reason he dind't was due to that gaeas that D-wing placed on him.

You also have to remember that Knaak wrote that book.
