Why is WoW declining? What made TBC so much better?

Wow has been declining a lot recently, they have lost a big portion of there subscribers. And it saddens me that it is happening, but i have a throe. The problem is, that the game is easy. some of the best fights in the game happened in TBC, with some of the hardest raids in the game. The community of wow has been polluted by things like "This game is way too hard, i want m gear" Things like that. And Blizzard gave them exactly what they wanted. Since then, the game has gotten easier and easier. There is no challenge, and no motive anymore. The bosses in vanilla and TBC took weeks, and months to kill! And guilds were trying there hardest! And it saddens me that this game has gotten this way! Sure, there is PVP, but there raids, dungeons, have just gotten boring and simple. Please leave some support, blizzard needs to restore WoWs former glory.

Nothing really; TBC while it was a good time....also sucked massively if you were in a causal guild. Have fun playing in Kara for the entire expansion, good luck completing heroics if your guild was tiny, and enjoy as you grind though of ugly landscape.
Also, that mentality has existed since Vanilla.

The bosses took weeks, because they were buggy and unkillable, or overtuned and unkillable. Most of the players didn't have any chance to even see them. If you have millions of players, why make content to less than 100,000?
Oh, and right now there is still more active player than in BC...

Bosses were impossible on tbc, then they were easy on wotlk, then heroics were too hard on cata for dungeon finder groups. Today blizz took the time to cater to every1 in a diff way and they are serving content at a good pace.
If you find it too easy you can try to set a record on challenges or go to a heroic raid, have you already beat lei shen?
i another ppl find its to hard, well there are the scenarios and raid finder.
I you like instead, the non instanced content, there are a lot of rares to hunt down, a lot of artifacts to gather in archaeology, factions to rise ppl to become best friends with.
so, what would you like to have? a lore tweak to revive illidan? :)

I remember reading that less than 1% of the total player base managed to complete Black Temple back in TBC...
I don't think the developers would have wanted that.
It still seems like a lot of hardcore raiders don't like the fact that so many more people get to see all of the content and get epics.

One may as well ask Why is time passing? What made the past so much better than the present?
Several possible answers exist, here's 3 flavors:
Hindsight.
Nostalgia.
Memory distortion.

Can't take the OP serious about how easy the game is until he/she links Hc Lei Shen achieve on a toon they own.

Honestly? The highest point of WoW subscriber-wise was during Wrath.
Also, the decline in subscriber numbers? You have to remember that this game is 8 years old. 8 years old and they still have, what, 9 million subscribers? That's really impressive and completely unprecedented.
But the fact of the matter is, with an 8-year-old game you're going to get people who are just plain tired of it. Even though WoW has changed a lot since 2004, it's still an old game and people are going to get tired of playing a game for that long. Heck, I got tired of playing it after 3-4 years, took a year-long break, and now I'm back.

Wow, people think TBC was better then now. TBC was horrible. After one left Hellfire pennis was all down hill from there.
Right now is the best the game has ever been.

Pretty much everything has been covered here.
Older games tend to get remembered with fondness regardless of how bad they look/play now, because you don't see them for what they were. (Great for the time)
I had some amazing times in Vanilla and BC, but that was not really the gameplay, it was the fact you would be stuck in a god awful raid for hours, so you had a laugh with your guildies/friends. (and by God did you need a sense of humor sometimes)
So I guess what I'm saying is the camaraderie/banter made it fun, but would I want to go back? Hell no!
I also get the feeling many people who say it was awesome simply never played the game back then, they are just repeating the garbage some elitists spout and imagining how it was from their experience of the zones nowadays. (Because of the "if you didn't play from Vanilla you don't know what you are talking about" attitude many have, some players just pretend to have.)
Pretty much this exactly. I will admit that I wasn't too fond of Cataclysm (then again, from what got posted on the forums, not a ton of people were), but TBC wasn't the highest point in WoW. Each expansion has its ups and downs and is tuned for slightly different crowds each time.
However, we only remember the fondest parts of that expansion. For example, I remember leveling in Stranglethorn Vale and how awesome it was, but it took a bit to remember the mind numbing boredom of the Eastern Plaguelands.
Same with TBC. Hellfire Peninsula was an awesome way to start an expansion. Blade's Edge Mountains was a great way to kill it halfway through. Kara was terrible (imo) but I really enjoyed SWP.
Wrath. Howling Fjord was awesome. Dragonblight sucked. Ulduar was easily one of the best raids made, but ToCr and neo-Naxx sucked. It's all up to perspective.

Subs are down 2.5 million from the peak during Wrath as of the end of Q4 of 2012*. Your facts are wrong. Tsk.
*Q1 of 2013 numbers won't be out for a week or two.

Yeah, and they went back up to 9.6 million after bottoming out at 9.1 during Cata so...yes; Subs did go back up.
