Hello all, I know there are a million tutorials out there for beating Kanrethad and tons of articles to read, but I would just like to reiterate some key points that will make or break you during the fight. This guide is aimed for those who lack top-notch gear and who understand the encounter and have the dance required for this fight memorized. It took me approximately 150 attempts to finally down him with my ilevel 475 destro gear, and here are the points I've classified as essential requirements for this fight. There are multiple combinations of abilities to down him, but if you're stuck and can't figure out why, it is my hopes that something in this article will aid you.
1)
Purification Potion. This fight is a fight of finesse and not brute force, so you'll need time. I found removing CoD with this potion just after the second doomguard was summoned was the most ideal time.
2)
Charred Glyph. Make a macro to "/target pit lord /cast enslave" as well as a macro to instantly break your enslave, so you can dismiss and reenslave your pit lord seamlessly. Because of my gear, I found I had to reenslave 3 times during this fight. The best times for me was when he was summoning the doom lords both times, and again later in the fight in between imp summonings.
3)
Charred Glyph. Because you're undergeared for this fight, your pit lord will have a longer period of time to lose his health to heal you because of your decreased dps. It's not fun to have your pit lord die when the boss is at 3% (happened to me 3 times). Sacrificing 9k HP to heal your pit lord for 3M HP is well worth it. Be careful of healing aggro however. Soulshatter helps with this.
4)
Soul Leech. This is very important to have. The less damage you take, the less damage your pit lord takes from healing you, the less chance you'll die.
5)
Dark Pact. On rare occasions, he will still target you with his chaos bolt even when you're spamming your portal while waiting for your debuff to wear off. You can't shake this, so specing into Sacrificial Pact and soul leech can help you. Between Sacrificial Pact, soul leech and your
, you can eat an entire chaos bolt without taking damage.
6)
is also a trick in your sleeve that will aid you tremendously.
Seed of Terrible Destruction, in plain words, sucks. It sucks to have a black hole dropped on top of your portal, and it sucks even more to have that damn monkey on your back thwamping you on the head constantly. This can severely dampen your fluidity and control of the fight, and is enough to wipe you. Having another debuff removal helps tremendously.
7) Be sure to rebuff yourself with Dark Intent after each Felhunter wave. Those buggers will dispell it, and in the middle of the fray, it's easy to neglect to notice it missing. Along this same note, be sure to reapply your CoE on Kanrethad as well because this too will wear down before the end of the fight.
8)
. This is crucial for the Imps waves. After using Fire and Brimstone and immolating all the imps, this will keep you topped off while they are alive.
I hope this helps. Repetition is key to this fight, so keep trying and you'll eventually get it.
