When is a kill honorable?

The reason I am asking when is a kill considered honorable:
Was somewhere in Tanaris, I think it's called Bootlegger Outpost, playing a lvl 46 blood elf. I didn't even see it coming, had my back turned, when a 49 worgen killed me. I had no idea what was going on; just suddenly saw the numbers in red as I was getting hit, then dead I go.
I resurrected and found him: but I stood IN HIS FACE as I started attacking&killing him, not get him from behind.
So...I wonder if him killing me is considered honorable.
Granted, it's a PvP server and all, but how do I know when I am in posts/fortresses/cities when i could be attacked and when it's a non combat zone?
Very new at this; barely have a month of playing.

If you are on a pvp server, there is no safe zones. The only exceptions being sanctuary's, Shattrath, Dalaran, and the Argent Tournament grounds. I believe parts of the Darkmoon Faire are safe as well, but the areas on the outskirts of the island are still deadly. I may have missed a few, but more the most part, anywhere in the world where you are, you are technically a target.
Be glad in your situation where the player that killed you was only 3 levels above you and you technically had at least a half decent chance to kill them. All too often 90's are the one doing lowbie ganking and claim it to be pvp.
Glad to see you got some revenge on him.

I was glad to have been able to kill him and even more proud that I stood in front of him, to make my intentions clear.
As far as 90's killing me, yeah, I had that experience way too many times. That's why I will make sure to never attack anybody at a lower level. Higher, yeah...I can try.

TBH if it's red, it's dead. I wont camp someone but if you're pvp flagged I will not hesitate to attack. I'm on a PVE server so the occasional person with pvp flag is a nice change.

Oh, don't get me wrong, buddy! :-) I knew what I was getting myself into when i chose a pvp server, and I'm sticking to it. My only questions were if it was honorable (which now I know it was) and if there are any safe zones.
World PvP on my server is not rare, and I believe the ratio is very close to equal, if not equal. I can say that I run into enemies quite often. With some I fight, some just pass by me, looking like they are too busy questing to worry about attacking me. And quite honestly, sometimes I am too focused on finding what I need for a quest, to bother with attacking.
Last night for instance: ran into "red", was considering letting her go. She looked like, after inspecting me, she was gonna leave, but then attacked. (Her: human priest, me: Belf Pally, same exact lvl) Unfortunately for her, she didn't see my friend behind me, who wasted her quicker than I could even target her. I totally wanted to let her go, especially that it was 2 of us against her.
Not even 2 minutes later, another red comes driving on his motorcycle: saw me and decided to move along and pick up items for quest. And list of encounters went on.

Haha! Good plan. Or you can just call your guildies. I was lucky to get in a guild as it was small (now it's not so small anymore) and all the 90's are super helpful, especially that i put in time and loyalty. So if I get ganked, I call for help. They get there while I am still traveling back from the graveyard. Or, when I am questing and a 90 happens to fly by, they have this habit of whispering that I should feel free to ask them to come back, if I get in trouble. :)
Happened in Stonetalon some weeks ago, being attacked by a human and 2 night elves. So I asked my guild for help, and one 85 came and served some justice. Did it feel good? Heck, yeah!
But still: I do believe in honor, and no matter how bad it's itching me to attack, if I am higher lvl or with other Hordes, I won't attack.

I consider myself an honorable player. Whenever I see someone of the opposite faction running around with pvp I always leave them alone, but I keep a close eye just in case they decide to attack. If they are lower lvl than me I will never attack them no matter what (except for in BGs). If they decide to attack me I analyze the player attacking me:
- Does he/she pose a threat to me?
If so I will fight back and lower him/her to the point that he/she will have to retreat or back down. If they do so, I will not finish them off and keep minding my own business.
- Is the player attacking me doing hardly any damage at all?
In this case I will do emotes like /no and /stop to make them realize that if they do not stop attacking me I will fight back. Sometimes I also just ignore them attacking me and keep doing whatever I was doing (which if quite funny and I imagine them being pissed off at me for ignoring them or thinking I'm a noob who's not fighting back)
Edit: I also help players of the opposite faction if they appear to need help
