Ok I need some help deciding what axe to go for (Im Unholy btw). Ive had such bad luck in LFR (casual player) but want to upgrade my weapon. Currently I am using Masterwork Spiritblade Decimator, and I have had my eye on the pvp-axe you can buy with Honor now. But... is it really an upgrade?
Currently used axe
vs
PvP-axe
More STR and weapon-dmg, but much less secondary stats....
What do you think?

Ye I know its not a huge upgrade (if at all), and I do PvP abit but not seriously at all (as I said, casual player).
I have Blood as off-specc, and have tried Frost for my dps-specc but didnt like it. Wasnt fun, and I didnt do good with it so I switched back to unholy after a while since I do better with that specc, and enjoy the play-style more.
Mastery is listed as a low-priority-stat for unholy, but it reasently got buffed for us and I havent seen any updated numbers after that so Im not sure about the value of mastery compared to haste or crit anymore.

The real question is, if you are casual player and only do LFR why do you need a better weapon?
It seems that only reason is that "you want it". Whats wrong with the old one?

I've never understood the logic of "if you don't raid, you don't need better gear". Getting a new weapon or any other upgrade, is going to make your character more powerful, whether you raid or not.
"Casuals" benefit from a new weapon because it'll make them get through the dailies faster, finish their scenario/dungeons quicker or allow them to solo old content. LFR also requires you to kill bosses, so the better people's gear, the more chance of killing the boss without wiping 5 times.
I'm a "casual", yet I still take pride in trying to make my characters the best they can possibly be, and trying to perform as best I can. Even if it's not to kill cutting edge content.
This isn't aimed at you specifically Zakkhar, just a general observation as I've seen that statement being thrown around a lot in the past.

Personally I'd blow a fortune coin on Elder Council in LFR every week until the Sword drops. You can always do the T14 LFR Elegon and Sha of Fear for 2H weapons too. Even use a coin there since those coins are abundent on the ThunderKing dailies. Most of us are capped at 20, blow a bunch on items for Troves scenarion, jump in the scenarion, and walk out with 20+.
Stick with the blue axe you have now. Sooner or later, something will drop :)

How much faster? 5%? You just want bling bling epics, deal with it. Everything else is just an excuse.
LFR also requires you to kill bosses, so the better people's gear, the more chance of killing the boss without wiping 5 times.
In LFR you usually have 16 other people dpsing + 2 tanks. If you gonna wipe due to stuff not dying its not because of a blue weapon of one or more guys, but because your group does something wrong. You can do perfectly fine dps with fully blue gear, if you know wha6t tou are doing. Problem is people very often dont and try to make gear excuses.

Sure you can call it pride or greed or whatever, but truth is you will not have a chance to efficiently use any of that gear anyway. Majorty of time all it does is look nice in your armory or while you are idling in major city.

Check out the various the Faction Quartermasters. The Klaxi have two hander and one hander that you can eventuallly get by doing dalies. Doing dalies are generally avoided by "casuals", but the Klaxi dalies are fun. And you can pretty much go at your own pace to level your rep to exalted. IF you did all the Klaxi dailies everyday you should figure on taking 21 days to get to exalted. So if you did it every other day, then it will take you 42 days.. and so on.
Do a weekly MSV run and see if an upgrade drops for you.

No faction quartermaster offers a weapon being an upgrade for him.

Yeah the Klaxxi and whoever else offers a 2H are all il463... Cosmetic purposes only if you want one of those (transmog). trust me, do MSV elegon, Terrace for Sha of Fear, and ToT for council. Since the relase of LFR I have maybe seen 2-3 solid total pug groups (not a guild doing LFR) that knew everything and gave it thier all. the other 96% of the LFRs I have personally seen are people AFKing during trash and roughly 11-15 people doing as much DPS as a tank. Thankfully the 5% stacking buff was implemented. I feel its wonderful for players like myself that focus the whole run and carry a raid. Since I went Alliance (eew, i know) the Q times are an hour or more.... at least after 3 wipes the boss will die and I can move on to get my valor and possible upgrades for main raiding.
I believe you can do a ToT boss and use a coin every time. 2 or 3 weeks ago all i needed was council to finish and did Jon'rokh and Horridon twice and the option to roll was present both times. Also the 2H sword of 7 Hells or whatever is on general boss loot table I think so there is a possibility you can win one off 1st boss on a coin too. Don't loose faith, a weapon will drop sooner or later. I havent seen 1 person without a il483 Sha of Fear axe lol!

Ok, back from buissnes-trip, thx for all the answeres!
Yea, I will continue to run Elegon and Sha of fear (cant enter ToT yet though), getting those weapons are my goal, obviously. I will probaby buy the pvp-axe anyway, honor is so easy to get nowadays, lol, and it will of course make me have more "pvp-Ompfh" ;)
@Zakkhar: Upgrading your gear is part of what makes this game
fun
. Just because I dont do heroic raids and hardcore arena doesnt mean I dont wanna improve my game. I think you should play a class and a specc you
enjoy
, but then give it the best you can. I read up on tacticts, class rotations etc, and I enjoy gearing up my characters and doing good dps in raids. Even though I often play underperforming speccs (I played BM-hunter for 2-expansions before it got buffed in MoP, I play Unholy dps now etc) I generally out-dps the FOTM-speccs because I read up, practice, and focus. I perform better with a specc I enjoy, and even though I play casual nowaday, I still wanna do good, and upgrade my characters. Whats wrong with that?

Like i said. Fun from watching your shiny bling bling epics in armory.
Just because I dont do heroic raids and hardcore arena doesnt mean I dont wanna improve my game.
I dont do these either. Gear is only a mean to downing bosses, downing bosses gives gear etc etc. The fun is from spending time with people while completing tasks that require finesse.
I think you should play a class and a specc you
enjoy
, but then give it the best you can.
Thats often not possible.
I read up on tacticts, class rotations etc, and I enjoy gearing up my characters and doing good dps in raids.
Greed, pride, show off.

You cant outperform fotm specs, you can only outperform fotming players. Fotms specs cant be outperformed because thats the reason they are fotm. So you basically gear up to perform better than other players and "feel better" about yourself. Greed, pride, show off, insecurity.

@Iiudsnube-
Pay no mind to the above post. Any time you see a Negative Nancy edit a post a few times, just ignore.
How did you do in LFR yesterday? Any weapon drops? Let us know :)

Hey.
Shaddup.
Elitist raiders ruin this game, i'd like to see you do something that isn't a bot can't do better.

I don't see how such a genuine and unassuming question has brought out the rude side in the forums. If this page is to be believed, the OP is both wrong for wanting to get an small upgrade to improve his play, and wrong for not improving his play for more small upgrades. I'd suggest that before someone gets all worked up that someone else is enjoying the game in a different way than they do, they take a step back and ask themselves "Wait- why am I so agitated when it has nothing to do with me?" If the OP was expressing some kind of presumption that his DPS didn't matter because an LFR group could carry him, I could perhaps see how members of the community could feel put upon by that attitude, as it does affect others. If anything, though, he is saying he'd like to do the best job possible despite the fact that many people don't try that hard and still down the content, and that seems admirable.
Either the game is about getting the best gear and furthest progression you can, or it's about having fun. If it's about gear and progression, then everyone is motivated by the same greed and pride as everyone else and there's no difference in motivation for earning end-game heroic gear or earning the best gear you can get as a solo player- just a difference in how much you have to show off. If the game is about having fun, then it is absurd for one person to instruct another person that they are having fun wrong by trying too hard. In any case, I'm not sure how someone can in the same thread criticize people for not knowing what to do in a fight, and then call it showing off to look up what to do in a fight.
I'd like to suggest that further conversation be about the question at hand, rather than whether or not the OP needs to ask the question, or needs gear upgrades at all.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

I didint mention anything in terms of whats right and whats wrong. I simply named the mechanisms and i posted my own opinion. Which, boohoo, happens to be different than others. I was under the assumption of it being a discussion forum, where we (surprise!) discuss different opinions. If i was mistaken (again) mea culpa.
I'd suggest that before someone gets all worked up that someone else is enjoying the game in a different way than they do, they take a step back and ask themselves "Wait- why am I so agitated when it has nothing to do with me?"
Agitated? Thats not agitated at all. I asked a simple question which instead of being responded to got derailed completely.

Totally admirable. The problem is his idea wont work as it isnt an upgrade.

There is no criticism involved from my side. Just stating my opinion and naming the mechanisms. I am not instructing anyone, i just asked a question.
PS: I am in no way an elitist raider and my opinion shouldnt be treated as such. My progression is puny and recently i only play with one character (max two if needed).
I'd like to suggest that further conversation be about the question at hand, rather than whether or not the OP needs to ask the question, or needs gear upgrades at all.
If the pvp (honor) weapon was an upgrade it would be merely cosmetic. Changing the icon and the colour of the item.
The real upgrades are:
Tyrannical Gladiator's Greatsword
Tyrannical Gladiator's Decapitator
The real PvP weapon but it requires a few (5-6) weeks of maxing conquest (if the mechanics is the same as previous season)
Lionheart Champion, Reborn
Blacksmithing Bop weapon from TBC
Starshatter
both LFR and normal version (MSV should be easily puggable now, even as a casual).
Shin'ka, Execution of Dominion
normal version a bit harder to get but this one should provide decent upgrade should you complete the Dread Crystal quest.
And two weapons from ToT LFR (not sure if the OP has ilvl for them):
Greatsword of Frozen Hells
Zerat, Malakk's Soulburning Greatsword
Weapon from Lei shen is not yet available but should be in a week:
Uroe, Harbinger of Terror
Good luck, have fun (in whichever way you see fit).
