With starting fresh with a friend and I and him having about 5 times more free time then me its starting become a bit annoying trying to spend every free moment trying to catch up to him. The way things are going he will do his burn out before I get to 90 and ugh it would have all been for a waste. I use to do a lot of PVP half afkish yeah yeah bad me and it used to be some what decent but it seems these days that does not scale as well.
Any tips or advice would be wonderful :)

Quest, instance, quest some more, do some more instances, level.

Yeah, That seems to be the way I'm doing it. For him takes like 1-2 hours a level and for me it seems to take several haha. I guess I'm not a good leveler.

There are a few things you can do to speed up levelling. For starters I would avoid dungeons. Dungeons place your levelling speed at the control of others.
If you just want to level as fast as possible, move on to the next zone once you are in level range to be able to pickup quests there. Make sure you have all the quests from a hub, and try to do things in circuits, that is to say look at your quest list and the map and as much as possible avoid backtracking. You can also pickup some speed by not reading quest text and by looting only after several grouped kills.
If you don't have a banking toon, make one. Vendor all your trash and send your banker everything else. This will negate the need to go into town. Only go into town to train new riding skills. You don't need anything from the AH. You don't need potions or glyphs or any gear you won't get as a quest reward or loot. You really don't.
Make sure you log out in an Inn whenever possible. Every little bit of rested xp will help.
When you sit down to level, keep your concentration on the game. Avoid grouping and those quests which still require groups (some quests in Shadowmoon Valley come to mind).
Every race has a zone levelling path. Follow it religiously. Do not jump around the world, just move on to the next logical zone. Do not wait till 60 to go to Outland, 58 is fine. Same for Northrend (go at 68). You will be fine in Hyjal/Vash'jir at 78, but I would definitely get to 85 before going to the Jade Forest.

Just to clarify from the last post- you can't go to Hyjal/Vash at 78. Well, you can, but there are no quests available.

Uggh.. Wait until 60 to go to Outland to get flying because Outland is horrible.
Ecc - How could you get Hyjal/Vashj'ir wrong? You need to be 80. Tut tut.
And, you need to be 85 to get the automatic quest to get to Jade Forest.
Cheers.

Some heirlooms work through level 85. The ones you can buy from guild rewards I believe.

TBH it's been awhile since I took a fresh toon from Northrend to Cata. Yeah, being grounded in Hellfire is ...well.... hell, but the quest xp there is so much better than Silithus (which is kinda devoid of many quests anyway) or the Blasted Lands. So if you are concerned about xp per hour, Outland at 58 makes more sense.
And it seems Olivia Grace was reading your mind.

Thanks all, I'm now 86 and wow it's getting slow. Almost 87 in Valley of four winds. How crazy does the quest exp change like say what it did in Cata high level zones? I think you got almost double the exp? Just asking because I wonder if I should keep grinding all the quests 1 by 1 or actually skip zones each time I hit the next cap.
Thanks :)

I would stay in Kun Summit until you finish it. Just my opinion, The quests in TS give more exp, but they are a definite step up in difficulty (IMHO) and take longer also. On some of my alts, I rushed to TS at 88 and had some difficulties (especially the first few quest hubs) because of adds and patrols and stuff like that.
I think time-wise it would be pretty close to even, but for squishy classes that can have trouble with patrols in tight quarters, KS is much more relaxing to quest through quickly.

Thanks all I started to do Kun Summit then moved me to the next zone to the west and I did not even know I was there haha. But things are going good. Now level 89 1/2. I did some BG's and we won like a good dozen + in a row it was hitting like 3-4mil exp an hour.

Went from level 80 to 85 in less than a day of questing on my Druid. Was amazed with the leveling speed through Cata, with but 2 BoAs.
85 to 90, I only leveled on my main as 5.2 is close and rep rewards for alts will be useless by then (and they won't benefit from the rep rewards).
Unless your alts are going to raid or PvP end-game, just as well leave them at 85. Too much work now in WoW to gear out alts, and more so if you like playing both PvE and PvP (27k CP for 5.2 will be a full time occupation as it is).

The other reason to do a lot of Kun-Lai Summit is to get the 24 slot bag quest reward. Grummie Sack I think it's called.
Cheers.

I skip out of Jade Forest, Valley & Karsarang as fast as possible.
Then do the intro part of Kun-Lai, the Grummel Pack questline, open the gates to Shrine, and do all the Shado-Pan quests. And that gets me into Townalong. And avoids the more painful quests in the Summit.
With each alt I've leveled, I'm trying to finish zones that I haven't gotten Achievements for.
