Hello,
I know this may sound very silly for some people, but I would like to participate on the giveaway(and on future ones) but it requires me to create a facebook. I know it's a "must" these days, but I never had any interest in these social network things. So the only thing I would like to ask is, instead of requiring us to have a facebook why not do something like this: double the chance for people that liked your facebook page. That way me and other people that doesn't have facebook(probably like 10 of them in the whole world) could participate as well xP
Thank you.

I finally had to create a dummy facebook page for these types of things because, like you, I have no interest in the social media type of thing and I refuse to use it. I don't put my real name there (I just made a name up) or any other info, it just sits there. I was especially glad that I kept it totally anonymous recently, since I entered a contest for Rift, and my real name would have been plastered all over otherwise. If you do this, I'd suggest using an email that is also totally anonymous--perhaps even creating a new one and only using it for this purpose--since anyone who has your email and has a facebook account can find you via fb and message you.

I have never understood why so many companies use FB for material that just as easily can be on their own homepage.
Wowhead have hosted numerous contests/giveaways on wowhead.com, dtarting to use FB is beyond my comprehension.
There have been so many cases n dfferent countries around the world, where FB is breakig various laws concerning data collection/storage, that it's most likely only a matter of time, before FB have to close permanently, because their business concept is in violation of virtually every country's data laws.
This an EXELLENT reason for wowhead (and others) not to use FB for their material..

Facebook "likes" help sites reach a wider audience and develop their online presence beyond their own pages. I don't take part in facebook myself but when so many people do it becomes a way of reaching people that one can't afford to miss these days. It seems fairly self-explanatory to me.
The purpose of this contest is to develop that facebook presence and those that don't want to take part in facebook at all are totally free to skip it. There'll be plenty of other contests.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

It's a marketing thing. The whole purpose of it is to attract likes for their FB page, if you allow people to opt out of that part if defeats the purpose of the contest.

I don't care much for Facebook and really dislike it when contests/promotions/anything really requires you to "Like" something on their page in order to participate/be eligible.
I understand why companies do it, anything to bring in more people and money, but it's not something I will participate in.
(The above isn't aimed at Wowhead specifically, it just gets tiresome when you're constantly being spammed by Facebook and other social network nonsense wherever you go on the internet)
As long as these Facebook contests don't become a regular thing I have no problem with sitting one out if it helps Wowhead.

When one or another site ask me for things like fakebook, googleplus or VK account, I just tell it to GTFO. I don't buy this crap at all. I'm sure I can find the same information or services without dragging myself into that pit. Because to now I've had no issues living outside it. And I don't see, why I should change my ways.

Wow, it almost like people think they have to sign up for every contest Wowhead puts up....I have a Facebook account, but that's more to play some of their browser games then for any other real reason.

Yes, companies don't routinely create contests just for fun. They want something from it. Or rather, they need to justify doing it. Which is fair enough.
Facebook is now one of the world's biggest marketing tools. And, I think, can be one of the creepiest ones. Imagine if you're walking down the street with your friend, chatting away about life, and they suddenly start advertising Coca Cola to you. Because if they do so they'll get a prize. To me, that's what it feels like when my page is filled with friends liking stuff for prizes, as if they're directly promoting it to me. So personally I don't do that for the sake of winning something, and I hate seeing all the advertising my friends are sending my way by doing so. It's just that bit too embedded in the social part of it for me. But I understand why companies do it.

It's a giveaway that is 100% optional. No one is asking you to change your ways :) I myself do not use FB anymore because I dislike it. We simply did a Facebook contest once for the first time in the site's existence. A large part of why we did it was because we did one at LolKing and it went really well--users were welcoming to it.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##
