Hi guys,
Was researching some equipment for a feral and found some good comments on this
Repurposed Lava Dredger
, and much less enthusiasm in the
Burnished Warden Staff
.
In late centuries, feral used to ignore weapon speed and focus on "per hit" weapon damage. Does it still applies?
If so, the
Burnished Warden Staff
would be much better for a cat...
And they seem to be the best PVP weapons also, or did I missed something in the PVP Heirlooms?
Is my reasoning so flawed? Or the +15 Fire Resistance is so important while leveling?

I think the main reason you are seeing a lack of enthusiasm on the Staff is because it was implemented much more recently. Patch 5.0.1 I believe. Weapon speed itself has no effect on feral DPS. The weapon is basically a stat stick for us.

Absolutely the case.
Weapon speed itself has no effect on feral DPS. The weapon is basically a stat stick for us.
This is not precisely correct. The actual answer is that instead of relying on pure weapon damage like we did before (there was a time when a fishing pole was BiS for a feral lvl70-79 despite having no stats simply due to its damage; actually FAP at the time which was a stat only visible to druids that was a function of weapon damage), weapon damage has been normalized based on weapon speed. As a result, DPS of a weapon matters, not the damage. In the case of those 2 weapons, the DPS is identical. I will mention that if the OP has any intention of rolling a WW or BM monk down the road, the
Burnished Warden Staff
is the better choice.
Edit:
Regarding the Fire Resist, Fire Mages (esp in lower brackets) are able to put out retarded amounts of damage in BGs & the resist on the mace cannot be dispelled. Also, that resistance is over & above the stat budget of the weapons. Which bascially gives you more stats for the same cost, and who doesn't like getting more for free? Either weapon is a good choice, but in my opinion the resist is not compelling enough to give up the flexibility of passing the weapon to another alt down the road.

Hi, sorry it took so long for me to came back,
Sadly I missed one day of the faire, and will have to wait another month to get my weapon (or maybe something else... who knows).
But im relieved that my knowledge (or lack of) was not so big a problem, and weapons speed is not really important in this case.
Thanks guys, :D

they are equal. i prefer the mace. it looks more fun!
Also more classes use a mace rather than a staff, as a weapon
be sure to get +25 agility enchant on it btw :)

not true, hunters and monks can't use maces. and now hunters dont use any melee weapon. so the staff is better
Um...what? Monks can use one handed maces. Please don't necro old topics with incorrect information.

If you'd read the thread, you'd know they were talking about the two-handed heirloom mace, which monks most definitely
cannot
use.
