My brother's 35, he's a computer engineer who has been addicted to playing wow for a long time now but lately he's been playing Lord of the Rings instead. That's not the problem, the problem is I want to get him a board game for Christmas but I don't know which one to go with now or which one is better/ challenging and fun to play. Also, I noticed they both seem to have several different editions?, I don't know, I don't play either one so really I have no clue.
I appreciate any help or feedback you might be willing to give.
Thank you so much..

Someone got me the World of Warcraft board game once... I've played it once. I like WoW, I don't care for board games. I wouldn't get him either unless you know he likes 2D games like that. lol

A lot of times, people will try and capitalize on popular ideas by putting out as many branded products as possible without a whole lot of quality control. Most board games that I have played that were based on a popular video game, a popular franchise, a popular work of fiction, etc. were pretty bad (excluding maybe the various Monopoly editions, but then the game rules were the same). If you are dead set on getting him a board game, then I'd recommend getting one that is a good game in and of itself- it's more likely to be reused.
We just recently got Zombicide, and it's really fun. If your brother is into fantasy and sci-fi in general, then Munchkin (which is more of a card game) is a lot of fun, and there are editions for most major genres.

I agree with Elhonna, gett ing the board game of a popular franchise isn't always that great. A few years ago I got the Harry Potter Scene It game. Since I was the only big fan of the game I would constantly win. The only other person I could play on fair ground with was my aunt.
Now I loved the game, but because I played it with very few others it just sits in our closet.
Now one game I enjoy is Apples to Apples. It is a fun party game and if you have get together a with friends and family it can be a nice alternative to some things. Now it isn't a board game, but it is quite fun. And pretty hilarious depending on what gets played.

If anything, get him Lego LOTR. Now THAT'S fun.
Any board game I've played recently have all been old board games from growing up. So if you're set on getting him a board game, consider something from back in the day.

You might look at the Lord of the Rings card game (
Amazon link
). It's got a really solid mechanic, good lore and nice artwork.
My question is, why do you want to get him a boardgame? Do you have examples of other boardgames he likes?
