PvP Power?

Can some one please explain the difference between the old pvp system (Resil only) as compared to the new (PvP power and resil).
The only questions I have about these stats is...
- Does PvP power affect players if they are not wearing items with PvP resil?
- Since you cant reforge the stats, whats the difference in the playability? Since you cant stack one or the other, its just like having resil only...
Any help is much appreciated :D

At any given level of PvP gear (crafted, honor, conquest) it should balance roughly the same as it did in Cata. When you're geared you won't see any noticeable difference between the power+resil system in use now, and the previous resil-only system.
The idea was to take PvE gear out of PvP even more. Because of PvP power, PvP gear is the
best
gear for PvP in all cases. It no longer makes sense to wear some PvE gear in arenas (swapping a bit of survivability for better damage) because the lack of PvP power on PvE items actually makes them worse for arena DPS now.

PVP power offers a linear increase to damage done to other players. This means there is no diminishing returns, and a set amount of PVP power will increase %damage done by the same amount, regardless of how much PVP power you already have.
The damage dealt is factored in before PVP resilience is factored in, so it doesn't simply negate PVP resilience.
Example: a frost bolt deals 10,000 damage to a PvE target. If your PvP power stat is at 50%, and you were hitting a player with 50% damage reduction through PvP resilience, you would deal 15,000 * .50 = 7,500 damage to the player.

PvP weapons have no PvP power or resilience, so you're only measuring weapon damage and pure stat contribution for them. The best dagger will be the best dagger, whether it came from PvP or PvE.
Weapon damage
is
the most powerful stat on the weapon for any melee class. If the weapon damage is higher on the PvE dagger(s), you're much better off with them.

I wanted to point out the fallacy here.
PvP power is a percentage increase. PvP resil is a percentage decrease. That's all you need to know. 1 point of power will not directly negate 1 point of resil -- this is true -- but power isn't necessarily factored in "before" resilience. They're factored in separately, and the order doesn't matter as it's simple multiplication:
R = resilience = -50% = .5
P = power = +50% = 1.5
10000 * P * R = 10000 * .5 * 1.5 = 7500
10000 * R * P = 10000 * 1.5 * .5 = 7500
Order of operations isn't strict with multiplication. No matter which order it occurs in, the result is the same.

I think that about sums it up. I really appreciate the help and Number crunches there! :D
