Alright, I have yet to touch MoP but this info should be just as valid.
I mainly played during WotLK but this will still be important.
1st: Get skype. This is important especially if you are just starting out. Communicate CC and healing, etc.
2nd: Know your class. You should know every ability and memorize the keys by heart. I can still play my shaman without a keyboard (as in my fingers automatically know where the location of the key is).
3rd: Pillars. These are more powerful than any defensive buff. Never stray too far.
4th: Focus macros. These will reduce the time it takes to CC an enemy. It will also let you heal>CC>heal with no wasted time.
5th: Get used to your teammates.
6th and most important... LEARN! Ever wondered how people can make a new character and get gladiator in 3 weeks? They're not even good at their class... They just know how every comp works and predict their moves. The more you play the higher you'll get. After 6 months try with another character and I guarantee you will easily surpass the ratings you struggled with before.

1) Priotize targets, If the enemy has control, target the melee classes first(No melee can even touch a frost or any hunter), Beast mastery
MUST
be your first target no matter what, healers that you can't interupt are best bled dry by doing as much damage to the enemy as possible, focus on classes without mitigation abilities over those who have them. Mages and Druids have OP CC and are higher priority. Add all this data up for your target.
2) Economic heals beat fast ones unless the target is under 20% hp, with healers, a fight is about bleeding his/her mana dry.
3) Don't burst on a Ice block, Hand of prot (If rogue,feral/guardian druid huntard, warrior, DK or paladin) bubble Anti-magic shell (If mage, priest, balance druid paladin death knight warlock), they compeltely negate your burst
4) Choose your interupts wisely, especially when fighting mages, they have a massive variety of spells to be interupted, from frost apocalypse to polywin to pyrodead, pick whatever is the most dangerous spell and take it out.
Just what i know.
