Return to board index

Hi,
Just wanted to let you guys know about a new guide I created:
Gearing up when you hit 85
Please have a look, vote, comment, and whatever.
I wanted to post just to give it some visibility briefly as it's new.
I emailed Ashelia yesterday asking if this was OK, but no response, so if mods don't think this is Ok, please feel free to lock or delete this thread.
Cheers.

Maybe it would be better just to combine
http://www.wowheadnews.com/blog=187351/closing-the-gap-a-guide-to-gearing-up-in-4-1
and

Well, I went to both those guides to see what I could plan for my Elemental Shaman (Mail Intellect). It was not easy trying to see the order I should plan to do stuff. Too much information about Raiding drops etc.
So, my guide is specifically a Planning guide. How should I 'plan' to gear up once I hit 85. A one stop shop to see all the relevant vendors and what they provide. I am now using it for each of my toons when they hit 85 for quick access to what's available from Molten Front vendors and what I can get from rep and JPs etc.
Cheers.

Hey YJMark,
I think I understand where you're coming from, but let me give you my perspective as a player.
Yes, I've been to EJ to research my spec, been to the class forums to find out all about it, know what my priorities are for stats etc.
However, planning for what gear to get in what order is daunting and I've had to look at lots of different places to find out. Faction rewards guide, JP and VP vendor pages (trying to remember how to find them is hard), the Molten Front guide etc. etc. So what I've tried to do is provide a one stop shop for people to look at and to be able to click on all that stuff without looking it up. I use my guide all the time for that.
BTW: I've updated the guide substantially. I've now provided links to the gear from the MF vendors, and have sections on the drops from ZA and ZG (ZG still under construction). So everyone, please go check it out.
Cheers.

Lanky,
Its a very nice guide and very well formatted, but Im not sure its right for who it seems to be written for.
I would assume that its directed more to a new player, reaching 85 for the first time. If that is the case, I feel like it somewhat misleads the reader in some ways, mostly just in the order that the typical new 85 will obtain gear. Mainly because it seems to focus a lot on the MF vendors.
First, you have to consider that unlocking the MF vendors is a huge time comsumption for many players. I can't remember the exact time frame, but I know that, assuming that the new player does every single quest, every single day, it is still well over a month. Now toss in missing a day or two each week, and that time frame gets extended quite a bit. I would suggest "moving" MF vendor gear more to something that you work for as an upgrade, rather than something you "need" or should have.
From my perspective, here would be a more viable "route" to take.
1. From running regular dungeons 80-85, you should have at least a decent amount of JP's built up. With t11 gear avaliable from JP's, this should be any new 85's first priority. Also, the JP boots are dirt cheap on the AH, so if you have any gold at all, thats a good investment.
2. Many of the 353 BoEs from the troll-roics are also dirt cheap on the AH, and can be a great addition to a starter set.
3. The Thrall questline awards a 365 cloak, can be solo'd by most classes, and easily duo'd by all.
4. With 1 piece of tier 11 gear, the Thrall quest cloak, and JP boots from the AH, assuming you know your class, you should be ready for Heroics. At this point you should be able to start filling in slots pretty quick with JP pieces (3 tier pieces, 1 ring, and a trinket.....combined with your JP boots and Thrall cloak), you should quickly be ready for Z-roics. These should help fill in the remaining spots.
All in all, a 355 iLevel should be easy to get within a week or two. THEN, you can start thinking about the 365 upgrades that await you from the MF vendors.

Thanks for the comments. I did note in the MF section that it was really for planning (so that we wouldn't go out of our way to get a worse item in that slot). But, I've put a little paragraph in that section explicitly stating this, following your feedback.
Cheers.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, lankybrit, but I'm going to shut down this thread, as this is exactly the reason why people can comment on a given guide. Easier to keep it separated and in the same place.
