Grind out the zones, run randoms, profit.

I PvP 60-80 anymore if its a class I enjoy PvPing with. 80-85 requires just too much experience to do anything except quest primarily.

Quest while in dungeon queue.
This is the quickest way I've found.

If you already have leveled a toon to 85 you probably would have known already so I am going to assume this is your first toon.
A.) what's the rush...what do you think is waiting for you at 85 that can't wait.
B.) Even with the most efficient leveling method applied, how much time do you think your really going to save that will matter in the overall scheme of things.
Take the road you find most appealing and go. trust me, you will get there soon enough and find out you haven't missed anything.

Having not played since The Burning Cursade I have recently leveled two characters 70 to 85.
What I did for both: Sat in the LFD queue and did quests. Once I got to about 83 I quit queuing for dungeons and did strictly questing. Don't put too much time into dungeons... maybe one a level at most to get your quests done, unless you have a lot of rested exp.
It took me between two and three weeks (each) of casual, but regular, play to get from 70 to 85. I'm guessing it could be done in a week if you have a full time job, but go at it hard.

Once you get to 80:
Hyjal (all quests)
Deephom (until you hit 83)
Uldum (all quests)
Twilight Highlands (until 85)
Note that you may not be able to queue for dungeons until about level 82 because you won't meet the iLvL requirements.
Cheers.

If you can tank at all Dungeon queues are way faster then questing. Unless you get a bunch of bad groups.

I would disagree with this if the OP is planning on any serious PvE at endgame, because Therazane is one of the more important rep factions due to the enchants.
If you're just a casual player, or plan to mainly PvP, then yeah. But if you plan on getting into raiding, I'd do all of Deepholm and possibly even skip Uldum entirely.

I have to agree. Perhaps not the most efficient way, but 7k of normal xp per find at level 75 isn't too bad. I've pushed my mage from 73 to 76 solely through Archaeology, and its been quite fun to be honest. I'm letting the rested build up on him for the big push to 77, then I can move into Icecrown :D

Double Questing, all the way.
I recently leveled 3 alts from 64-70 to 85, it took me less than 3 days (30-36hours) on each. When you start doing dungeons and or BG's you loose concentration and your questing spree is ruined. The xp from Dungeons and their quests doesn't make up for lost questing time.
I did 80-85 in 10 hours on my mage which I didn't do Dungeons or BG's with, warrior 80-85 took 16 hours with a bunch of battlegrounds and priest 18 hours with 4-5 dungeons.

Quest while in dungeon queue.
This method, will take you two to three weeks to go 70-85. This is of course assuming your not a tank or healer. Because if you are a tank or healer you will have almost instant ques so you wont have much time to quest. You can also do a random BG to get the XP from that.
Some other best practices:
Dont hang around in capital cities. Go out and quest, while doing PUGS using the LFG tool. The only business you have in any capital city are quest NPCs and Class Trainers.
Always log off at an Inn or a place where you will get rested XP. (Though this really doesn't have much of impact any more, but every little bit helps).
In fact you should set your hearth stone to the Inn closest to where your quest hubs are.
Turn off the global channels and dont engage in any conversations that occur in them. It will only waste your time. (You should have those turned off anyway)
Dont browse the AH, it will only waste your time and gold. You dont need to get gear from there, that is what the PUGs are for.
Dont do trade skills, gathering, skinning and or processing will only waste your time.
Sell everything looted to venders except maybe cloth and other lootable trade mats. This includes blues and greens.
Create yourself a level one mule and park him at the mailbox in front of the AH, and at the end of each session send all cloth and looted trade mats to him/her. At the start of each play session log in the mule and get them out of the mail box. You will need to find time to have the mule sell things in the AH, but remember just selll dont buy

A few more best practices:
When questing go out and do a bunch of quests at once and then go turn in. Dont go do one quest, run back, run out do another one then run back etc.
Gather quests, skimm the tripe text associated with them and go get the objective. Remember your goal is leveling, not imersion. (as pointless as that is)

70-80 combine instances/bgs (your prefrence) with questing.
80-85 quest.... the best thing about Cata quests is that you pick up 2-4 quests at a time, and they are all in or around the same area, and you can complete them all at the same time, and turn them in at the same time... this makes it super fast and super conveinent...
Dungeons are a waste of queueing time if you are DPS - they are almost always not worth the time to go through them unless you have the associated quests....you'll have plenty of time at 85 to do instances :) - even as tank and healer... they disrupt the awesome quests :P
if you're going to do instances between 70-85 - wear a Starting faction or WOTLK tabard (like undercity/kirin tor - )
Grind out the Deepholm daily's and get the tabard.
Then Wear an earthen ring tabard or guardians of hyjal tabard when doing instances at 85 - since these dont have daily's yet.

Make sure you queue at least once for every dungeon to do the dungeon quests. Otherwise just pound out quests for like ~40 hour of /played time and you're done.
