In order to fully utilize the keyboard, you should learn to have keybindings for just about every button on your keyboard, because clicking on any ability for any reason is a waste of time, compared to pressing a button.
Now lets get some macros on the table.
General hunter macros:
Misdirection:
#showtooltip Misdirection
/cast Misdirection
or
/cast Misdirection
Have ? as your icon, which lets the macro find and use the misdirection icon.
every hunter should use MD at least on each pull.
Focus/HM:
#showtooltip Hunter's Mark
/cast Hunter's Mark
/focus
Very simple, but most hunters use some sort of unitframe addon, which makes the standart right click and press bug. But even hunters that dont use an action bar addon can save some time by having this macro.
I know that MM hunters dont have any use for HM, but its not bad to have close by.
Pet care:
#showtooltip
/cast Mend pet; Revive Pet
/cast Dismiss Pet
Have ? as the icon, which will let you see the changes in the macro, so you know what you are pressing.
we all care for our pets.
Disengage:
#showtooltip Disengage
/stopcasting
/script UIErrorsFrame:UnregisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/cast Wing Clip
/cast Disengage
/script UIErrorsFrame:RegisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
Have ? as the icon, will let the macro find and use the icon for disengage.
Bind it to a mouse button for easier use.
disengage is the easiest way for a hunter to quickly get around.
Aspect of Hawk and Wild:
#showtooltip
/cast !Aspect of the hawk
/cast !Aspect of the Wild
Use ? for the icon, so you can see where in the macro you are.
again you could have it out, but that takes up two buttons and we want to save buttons
Masters Call:
#showtooltip Master's Call
/petdefensive
/petpassive
/cast Master's Call
Tranqulizing Shot:
/cast Tranquilizing Shot; Tranquilizing Shot
Hold your mouse over an enemy and press the button.
simple in theory - tough in use
I use this, since its easier to use, tho it can bug if there are more than one Shambling Horror up, but there are hardly ever more than one.
#showtooltip Tranquilizing Shot
/target Shambling Horror
/cast Tranquilizing Shot
/target The Lich King
Rapid Fire:
#showtooltip
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast Call of the Wild
/use 13
/use 14
/use Potion of Speed
/use 10
Have ? as icon.
uses all of my long CDs at once and a potion if Im in a raid grp (Im kinda cheap so I dont like using 15g on each boss for a heroic)
There are still some discusion wether or not Speed is better that Wild Magic, but as a MM I feel that Haste is better than Crit, tho femaledwarf says its a 1.78 DPS loss
/use 10 is for engineers only. Its to use the glove enchant.

Quick summarization for 4.0 updates:
Silencing Shot and Kill Command no longer works the way they used to, so they are out of all shot macros, therefore have all shot macros gone away.
Volley have gone away, so there is no longer a need for an AoE macro.
As far as I know there are still no working Trap Launcher macros, so I have yet to include one.
Let me know if you find anything missing or usefull.

Add dash into master's call.
Add !auto shot into your shot macros, it forces (it can bug or lag) auto shot to fire before your first steady finishes.
#showtooltip Aimed Shot
/cast !auto shot
/cast Silencing Shot
/cast Kill Command
/cast Aimed Shot(Rank 9)
!flare, !volley, !freeze etc
Will keep a targeting circle so it's much easier to aim them repeatedly.
Having a rapid fire w/ a simple steady shot line added is great too.
Freezing trap is definitely not only for pvp, btw. lol
edited Freezing Arrow to have a !.
I never use Freezing Trap for PvE :-P
And I never use Steady shot for the pull, which is the only reason I would have /cast !auto shot added, but you could argue that one should add if since there are times where you change target midfight and you want to have auto shot up as fast as possible, so edited that also.
Masters Call:
#showtooltip Master's Call
/petdefensive
/petpassive
/cast Master's Call
Using @player works just as well as @Cialbi or @Ufretin
edited.
EDIT: From my reply in the FAQ...
On the MD thing I use this macro:
#showtooltip Misdirection
/cast Misdirection
/cast Misdirection
/cast Misdirection
/cast Misdirection
/cast Misdirection
Which is quite simple:
first starts to try and MD to my focus if it friendly,
if focus is unfriendly, then it will try and MD to the target of the focus, which is usually the tank,
if I havent set a focus, then it will try and MD to my target if my target is friendly,
if my target isnt friendly (which it hardly ever are), then it will MD to targets target.
and finally if all else fails then it will MD to pet, if the pet isnt dead or missing from action.
I have a problem with
/cast Misdirection
-and-
/cast Misdirection
If your tank dies, and your healer is next on the threat table, the last thing you want to do is have your MD that was intended to bounce onto the (now-dead) tank hit your healer instead...
Another example would be random-targeting abilities, or a phase of a boss fight when the threat table is reset.
Yeah I have noticed that it sometimes bugs, but I generally only use MD on the pull or when I have a friendly focus and I cant figur out what it should say instead to avoid the bugs.
Any suggestions?

#showtooltip Disengage
/console targetNearestDistance 5.000000
/targetenemy
/cast Wing Clip
/cast Disengage
/use 15
/cleartarget
/targetlasttarget
Means you actually use your melee ability if your target isn't in melee range but something else is.
/cast Tranquilizing Shot; Tranquilizing Shot
Also for silencing and scatter shot.
Means you can dispell/cc something without having to switch target.

The MD macro I generally use is:
#showtooltip misdirection
/cast misdirection
which has worked quite well for me. The extra conditionals you have are OK but I can see where in some cases where it could be bad, such as when the tank dies and your target goes after the healer.
I generally keep the normal MD button off to the side on my taskbar for when I need to do something like MD to an off-tank.
your takes care of that but I would worry about not having control as precise as i'd like over who gets the MD applied.
This seems a little weak for a MD macro, since it only uses MD on focus or pet, if I should have that, then I would add a @target, help to make for more usability in the macro.
Just to let me check how many times I actually use MD.
1: On the pull, but there I usually target the tank before he/she pulles and then the boss.
2: Midfight, which in ICC boils down to LDW and a few other fights, where its actually fairly standart to use, but there I always set focus on the tank I MDing to during the fight.
So changing MD macro to:
#showtooltip Misdirection
/cast Misdirection
If that is correct :-P
I have my MD on Q, which makes it very simple to use.
Shouldnt I make a list of my custom keybinds?
#showtooltip Disengage
/console targetNearestDistance 5.000000
/targetenemy
/cast Wing Clip
/cast Disengage
/use 15
/cleartarget
/targetlasttarget
Means you actually use your melee ability if your target isn't in melee range but something else is.
Will test this since it makes sense, but I dont quite understand it...
I would have it to be /targetenemy for it to make sense.
/cast Tranquilizing Shot; Tranquilizing Shot
Also for silencing and scatter shot.
Means you can dispell/cc something without having to switch target.
Simple Tranq macro, but I dont use it, though I have seen it before. Added.

There are in general types of MD macros.
The Mouseover macro
The Focus/Target macro
I tend to pref the focus/target macro, but I guess its up the individual user to pick his/her own.
Adding mouseover version to the list.

Really? Seems to be the extra shot off global it always has for me. (Works just fine too in all macros)

Yes it's off the GCD, what it doesn't do anymore is damage. There is no reason to macro it anymore, hence the removal.
Ty for the explanation.
Also afaik aspect of the wild is no longer ingame, so that macro could be scrapped.
I still have it, tho its not one of the most used spells I have.
In rapid fire macro you have furious howl and rapid there. Furious howl mechanics have changed and should be left on autocast and therefore have 100% uptime, also rapid has short enough CD to warrant autocast IMO
Oversight. Fixed.
BUT to my question. Is there a macro command that checks you own spec? I have rather elaborate mouseover overmacro, and I would like it to do certain things depending what spec I am, mainly swith between wyvern and silencing.
As far as I know you would have to make two different macros for it and just use them on the same actionbarbutton.
