Prospect macro
Return to board index
Post by
janniie
I've heard about some sort of macro that can be use to prospect ores without the pain of selecting the spell and selecting the ore...and so on.
This would prove very useful for me as I do ALOT of prospecting so if there's someone who could help me with this it would be very appriciated.
Simply, what I want is: a macro that selects the "prospecting" spell and selects the ore in my inventory and prospects it.
Thanks

There's an addon called "Deconstructive" that edits a prospecting macro when your bag updates to do so automatically.
The general format is:
#showtooltip <ore name>
/use Prospecting
/use <ore name>
however, if you just make the macro yourself, you will need to manually restack if the first stack of ore in your bags is too small. Deconstructive automatically restacks if the first stack is less than 5 ore.

thanks alot! the macro that you posted worked perfectly, wasn't even a need to restack the first stack as it just selected what ore i had left automaticly.

When it has problems is when the first stack it finds is less than 5 ore. Try splitting the ore into stacks of 4, and you'll find it won't work until the first stack is 5 or more.

Not true. The problem is when you have less than 5 ore of one type, but more than 5 of the second.
In other words, something like this:
/use Prospecting
/use Cobalt Ore
/use Saronite Ore
The above will hang if you have < 5 cobalt ore, even if you have enough to complete a prospect on the saronite ore.

What he said was true. The macro gives you an error if you use it without a stack of at least 5. Just tested it.

Well ya, that's because it's impossible to prospect ore that you don't have at least 5 of, but that's not the error he was talking about. The error he was talking about was that the macro would supposedly fail if you had say 13 ore in two stacks (a stack of 10 and a stack of 3) where the stack of 3 was the first stack in the bag. In
that
case, the macro will actually still function.

Well they must have fixed that recently, because it didn't used to work...as recently as two months ago.

I've
never
had that bug, and I used to use a prospecting macro heavily. The only bug I've ever run into is the one I mentioned. /shrug

I checked...the bug is still there.
To see it, take an ore you have plenty of, and split it into stacks of 4 or less. The macro simply won't work until the first stack in your bags is 5 or more ore.

Hmm... Maybe baggins was auto-compressing things for me :/

If you don't have autoloot turned on (because I don't play with autoloot) then you might want a macro that goes like this:
#showtooltip Prospecting
/in 2.5 /script SetCVar("AutoLootDefault", 0)
/script SetCVar("AutoLootDefault", 1)
/cast Prospecting
/use Saronite Ore
/use Cobalt Ore
Edit: What it does is, it autoloots the gems but then turns off autoloot immediately after. Careful while spamming the macro, sometimes it will just turn off autoloot completely. Press it one more time to fix it.
